Hi everyone!!! I've been on Plaquenil now for about 2 weeks now. My doc is on the fence if I have Lupus or not but she is seeing if I respond to the meds and feel better then she is diagnosing me. Well......started two days ago, I feel the mouth sores coming on (have 2 that just sprouted). It's hard to drink my warm coffee in the morning. Kinda burns! I also feel like a yeast infection is appearing! Can this be all related to the meds I just started? Is this a sign I truly do have Lupus? I'm so confused.
Hope you all are doing well.

Plaquenil takes up to 3 months to become effective so usually you are given a depomedrone injection if your bloods and symptoms are suggestive of active disease. That was in my case anyway. Ulcers and muscle and joint pain are symptoms the lupus is active also extreme fatigue. I stress that is what happens to me, everyone is different. The plaquenil leaflet should give you info about the length of time it takes to become effective. hope this helps.
Hi there,
I am sorry to hear that you don’t have a clear diagnosis yet, but hopefully your doctor will be able to assess and discuss this further at your next appointment, once your new medication has had time to have some effect.
In the meantime, it might be a good idea to make a note of any new symptoms you are experiencing and how you are feeling while you take the medication, like a diary, so you can refer to it when you see your doctor again.
Your pharmacist can also give you additional information about your medication if you have questions while you wait to see your doctor.
Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is one of the most common treatments prescribed for lupus. Anti-Malarials, such as Plaquenil, are of help in patients with skin and joint involvement and of some assistance with fatigue.
The drugs may be sufficient for patients with moderately active lupus to avoid using steroids. Hydroxychloroquine has anti-inflammatory properties, some sun-protective features and gives some protection against clotting. You can read more about the medications used for lupus in this leaflet which you can download or request from our website. lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u...
