Has anyone had a bad reaction to doing a cleanse? I am having gall bladder issues, and decided to do a cleanse my chiropractor gave me. Grapefruit, epsom salt. Has anyone tried this and have any adverse reactions? I did a liver cleanse years ago and had to stop because I started itching bad. Maybe toxins coming out of the body.

Gall bladder cleanse
I wouldn't mess about with it. Your liver is DESIGNED to remove toxins from your body - it rarely needs any help in the form of strange recipes. The most likely thing to get a cleanse with Epsom salts is your gut - it is a magnesium salt and attracts water into the gut and leads to (at best) loose stools. Too much and you may make a very close acquaintanceship with your toilet, risking being fluid depleted as a result.
And the primary benefit will have been to your chiropractor's bank balance - since I assume he didn't make a present of the stuff to you even though you say he "gave" you it.
Um, I think I have a bad liver, since my mom died from colitis and her liver going. She turned yellow. Anemic. Died at 48 years old. Plus, I drank like a fish in my 20's. Ugh! Trying to drown my problems in liquor. Ugh!
I was already warned I would have a close relationship with my toilet for an entire day. I am having a bloated gall bladder discomfort. And he did not charge me for the recipe. I finally found a good chiropractor. I am more worried about dislodging a large stone and not being able to pass it. I passed a stone once. Ended up not being able to urinate and was in pain. Had to go to the hospital and as I was there, I went to the bathroom...a lot of blood in the toilet and I believe it was passed.
I don't think it will clear a stone - if that sort of approach worked then hospitals would use it and they don't. In the UK you can't say they want to make money out of the patient...
This is true. I know eating beets will help. But, I thought I would do a whole cleanse since I have discomfort often in my gall bladder. Can't eat any kind of baked product. Had wedding cake last weekend. That did it for me. Thank you for replying.
Hi Natura, it might be worth getting checked for pancreatitis. I've had it and it hurts like hell. I used to drink too much in my 20's and suffered from it. The pain is in a similar area and causes bloating under the bottom of the ribs. Anything fatty or hard to digest will aggravate it too.
Anyway, I hope you find out what it is! Good luck 🙂
Thanks Kimbo..i ended up starting the cleanse and had to stop from a severe headache. My husband thinks the epsom salt dehydrated me. I was up all night with a bad headache drinking water all night long and all day today. Headache finally went away, but not ever interested in doing that again. Very uncomfortable. I will look into the pancreas. I have had my gall bladder sono before, and there were no stones. I eat pretty good. But, i know my cholesterol is high just because of the lupus or whatever. Not like i eat bad. Sometimes its just genetics. I can only do so much...
Thanks kimbo...
Hello! Good to hear from you Natura. I watched a documentary recently about herbal teas and the like and the claims of detoxing etc. It's all a load of nonsense to be honest. None of the doctors or scientists backed up the claims. Like the reply above, your liver and other internal organs all do their jobs and cleanse your body, you cannot speed the job up. Just eating a balanced diet, fruit & veg and drinking water is all you need. I'm glad you found a good chiropractor though. How are you at the moment, apart from the headaches from the detox? Wendy
The headache passed when i stopped the cleanse and drank water for an entire day. Plus coconut water with pineapple for potassium. I felt ok the following day. Lot of energy. Two days later, i am tired again and trouble with the heat and bloaty in my abdomen after eating a small meal. Doesnt fix the problem. My organs dont work great. Thats the problem I believe. I was hoping this would clean toxins out and get them all working again.
Oh well. Was worth a try. Wouldnt recommend because it dehydrated me terribly.
