Hi, Just recently I've been having dizzy spells and they've come and gone throughout the day, but tonight I felt really bad with it.
I had just finished eating my tea and we hadn't rushed it or anything then we got up to go and do the washing up and I was just starting to feel a bit wobbly. Got upstairs and it was getting a bit worse, by the time I got myself into bed the whole room was going round.
I put my glasses on in case it was because of that, but I still felt the room spinning. So I thought I'd lay down and try and sleep it off but even with my eyes closed I felt dizzy still. This is by far the worse it's been. I do have Lupus sle is it that or could it be something else causing it ?
Just to let you know I don't drink alcohol, but I really felt like I'd had quite a few tonight. I don't like going to the doctors with my aches and pains but do people think I should get it looked at.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
xxxx

I think what you have is called benign postural vertigo perhaps? I have read others describe it on here so maybe a lupus thing or maybe a vestibular problem independent of SLE.
I had this very badly when I was pregnant with my first son about 24 years ago. It only lasted a week and I don't know whether it was hormonal or what because, although I suspect I've had autoimmune problems all my life, I have never had this particular condition since. However I do remember it being really horrible.
Now I have a more subtle type of dizziness that occurs all the time apart from when I was on steroids. When it's bad (today) I do feel a bit stoned or drunk so I know exactly what you mean. I don't have the mood changes or care free sensation with this lousy symptom though. In my case I think it's Sjogrens but it could just be the small fibre neuropathy which is affecting my proprioception because my feet and legs are increasingly numb. I think I also have autonomic issues and these are quite common with SLE and Sjogrens I believe.
Hope it settles soon but if not I'd go to the GP and see what they think.
Hope you feel more balanced Georgie63. My Rheumy advised me to keep a diary of symptoms, date, when & how to look for possible patterns. Probs best to rest & Hope it's a 1off & you wake tmw feeling revived & fresh. Difficult to say whether it's Lupus or not as it affects each of us differently but your body's telling you something. Could be wax in ear or Anaemia (low haemoglobin levels)? Both affect balance, energy & cause dizziness. If it continues or for peace of mind, best to go to GP.
Hi Georgie63 I to have had this problem on and of for quite a while I have sle, sjogrens,
and fibro. Recently it has got worse my hearing was getting muffled and I was always feeling of balance I could not hear as well either, then on night i got out of bed and god I wish I had not the room was like a vortex around me.
A couple of days later I went to an opticians where they have an audiologist and they gave me a thorough check up they said I had fluid in both ears and my left eardrum was leaning and not straight make dr app straight away I did she was rude said she could see nothing wrong and sent me away so who do I believe.
This can potentially be a symptom of lupus, but it can also be a symptom of a number of other causes. It may be best to make an appointment with your doctor and get it checked out. Keep us updated with how you are getting on.
Sorry I didn't reply last night but I thought I'd give the tablet a rest in case that was causing the dizziness.
This morning I still felt not right but not as bad as last night. I went back to bed after breakfast and took some paracetamol and now I feel clear as a whistle. So glad the whole thing has stopped, but I will definitely make an appointment with my doctor just to get checked over.
Thanks for all your help everyone and I'll let you know how I get on.
