I didn't have a home visit I went to an assessment centre but I suppose the principal is the same. Don't be on your own as they will take this that you can manage alone and don't mind meeting new people. Don't offer them a brew as again, they will assume you are capable of doing this all the time. By doing this they will assume you can remember things, manipulate kettle, cups and carry full cups into the room. This also proves you have the mobility and balance to do the task. Also that it didn't tire you out. More tips on the Fightback4Justice facebook page/website.
Don't be afraid to refuse to do tasks you know will hurt or cause problems later on.
Have your copies of all your paperwork at hand and make sure that whoever is with you is familiar with what you have written on your forms.
My assessment was ok as I was well prepared and I got high rate care/low rate mobility.... mind you I did faint so maybe I got the sympathy vote!
Hi I had a home visit and my husband was with me, when the lady came he answered the door, and offered her a seat he sat next to me on the sofa. He then said to her (we have a copy of my wifes paperwork that we sent you is it on as you ask the questions she reads the answers as I find it hard to follow a deep conversation and to get the words I need to find out, she was lovely said yes that wasn't a problem. He also asked was it ok to help me anser the questions and again she said no problem. i explained I wasn't really feeling great and had two days before been in hospital with a major flare up . She said to me don't worry about the visit and if I needed to stop just to say. I never moved from the sofa where I was sitting all through the visit. and there were no silly moving about actions asked of me. My husband stopped her a few times and helped me answer. my tip when they come is to forget being to proud to them how ****** it makes up feel , I must a brave face on to the world but when I was talking to her like when I talk to my consultant the brave face came of and the reality of my condition and its tole not only on my body and health but my whole life. don't be afraid to say just how awful it is and how depressing living with this condition is. Good luck am crossing my fingers for you..let us know how you got on, I got both daily living element and mobility hope this helps. I did it with the attitude i was going to say just what living with this is like.
I was awarded PIP till January 17 I had a 40 page form to fill in which I sent back recorded delivery to which they sent a text saying they had received it, I got a letter saying I had applied for PIP and I might need a assessment this is not the case I was awarded till 2017 the system does not work for people who have long term illness
Good luck with your visit LouLamb. I sent my PIP form back in December and haven't had an assessment yet. Did you ask for a home visit? I think the main thing is to have someone with you. Explain your worst days not your better days. Agree with what other have said - have a copy of your form. Also, any photos you may have of malar
rashes/swollen joints etc. If you forgot to write something on the form, make a note of it to say. Let us know how you get on x
