If you are on immunesuppresents are you meant to go to the doctors at the first sign of an infection (even a cold) or do you wait to see if it comes to anything?
Thanks
Sharon

hi sharon you should go at the first sign of infection as steroids and immunosurpressants can mask how serious the infection is. better safe than sorry. not so much if just have a sneezes but if you have a sore troat or cough they should be checked out.
hope this helps.
It depends. I do not go to GP for colds unless breathing is affected or coughing up green stuff. But if i thought I had a urinary tract infection I wouldn't even go to my GP but straight to the hospital. last time I had a UTI I got antibiotics from GP then deteriorated really quickly ending up in hospital on IV antibiotics. So now I have been told to contact the hospital in these situations. I think it is a case of you personally knowing your body and how you feel.
I have felt I had a urinary tract infection and nose infection for the last week been feeling very poorly, couldn't get into docs so had my urine checked and today it came back normal. Both of these things have been a real problem for over a year. The trouble is I was told last time after ending up in casualty and being told there was nothing wrong, it takes someone with knowledge of what to look for in tests. I would agree unless your doctor is really hot then take a trip to casualty but even then insist they check properly. I feel in no mans land today. Take care.
Get to the doctors Sharon!! This is your friendly nurse here. Take care of yourself.x

Colleague of mine who I work closely with at work told me this morning that she's been coming in to work with a "highly contagious viral infection". I moved back so quickly I tripped over a pallet of stock. My manager over heard and sent her home and told her not to risk anyone else's health. He then told me to make sure I had some bloods done to be sure I was alright (given that I've been feeling rough). And to top it off Chicken pox is going round my sons nursery...
Just waiting on the results now.
Thrush, herpes zoster (shingles/chicken pox/coldsores), and the such are things that need medical attention asap. I quote the NHS page on thrush - "Invasive candidiasis is a medical emergency that requires immediate admission to an intensive care unit (ICU)." :S
Doctors... go... NOW!
After getting an infection in a tiny cut on my finger which visibly spread down and across the palm of my hand within a day, was red, hot and VERY painful then a week later i got pains in my lower back and fever which i left over night only to become dangerously ill and delirious the next day with a chronic infection through my kidney transplant, my advice would be - DOCTORS IMMEDIATELY!!!!!
