I need an indoor hobby
I've just taken up needle felting! It's super easy and will probably be quite cheap as all you need is some felting wool, some felting needles, and a foam pad so you don't stab yourself in the leg! Last weekend I made a landscape picture as my first thing to try, and I've now started an object - a little red and white mushroom!
You could make little festive things like a robin or a snowman, sew some ribbon on and hang them up as decorations.
Oh and all you need to move is your hand really, and you can do it as slow or quickly as you like, so it doesn't take much energy. I was knackered last weekend, and I managed it fine, it was quite relaxing in a way.
And there's knitting, or sewing, or paper crafting too. All indoor things that don't take much energy.
Creative writing - need just pen and paper. Imagine your friends' faces when you say that you're now a writer.
start a shop on etsy...can sell vintage things (at least 20 years old), or things you make...or even photos you take..and can make a few bucks at times...etsy.com..................its world wide.
I've been off work sick all this year with a bad flare. About two months in my son said do you fancy making origami flowers for my wedding? Complely stumped I said what do you mean and he showed me what they wanted and I had the time to practice. Since then it has become an all consuming hobby andethe occupational therapist said it was the best thing I could do to exercise my hands.
I knit its easy and you can start with easy thungs like scarfs i have knitted a few and sold them at work
I have just knitted myself a chucky cardi (these come together really quickly)
I am not knitting cardis for my grandaughter wool isnt cheap but places like aldi sometimes have wool and also wilkinsons
Hi singlemumloopy
I make cards for family and friends birthdays, anniversaries etc and find i's great therapy. Hope you find something you'll equally enjoy.X
Try something in the arts and crafts, look up crafts on Pinterest.com it will give you thousands of inexpensive ideas. scrap booking is another great idea and make great gifts for family and friends. You could also try looking on YouTube for art and craft videos to give you some inspiration.
Have fun with it, there's a whole world of crafters and artists out there and you may find a local group you could join with like minded members, some of which I've no doubt have long term illnesses too.
I don't know how old your children are but you could do some knitting and do some dolls cloths if you have a little girl or teddy bears, or failing that take a home study like computers or office management what ever good luck and good health.
I do cross stitch. Learned at school but took it up again after leaving. I still manage but am slower at finishing projects now. Make my own Christmas cards, birthday cards and have done large projects too. Stitched a map of Wales for my Nan's 80th birthday. She comes from Wales and I was just saying the other day I can't believe it's 13 years ago that I gave her it!
I do surveys on the internet and also competitions to pass the time as I am unemployed.
Yoga is always good and if you want to have some exercise have you tried a Wii? You can pick them up quite cheaply second hand, I have the sports package and can exercise, including yoga when I feel fit and at a suitable level. Its also something you can do with the kids, good fun.
How about cultivating an indoor herb garden from a packet of seeds? decorate yogurt pots and put some herbs in for presents.
I like working with pieces of felt, there are lots of patterns on the internet, bookmarks, key rings small animals etc easy to cut and sew, drop some hints for Christmas.
Whatever you choose to do look on sites like Freecycle for equipment you may be able to find a sewing/knitting group who would be pleased to get you started.
Just surf through crafty youtube and you will find something.
Singlemum, I was diagnosed with SLE 20 years ago. Since then I've started making cards for family n friends for all occasions. They appreciate the handmade jesture and it doesn't take much, paper, glue, scissors maybe double sided tape, it fills in the day. Also I make jewelry, that can be costly, but you could sell what you make to differ the costs. I'm at the point now that I'm 100% bed bound. I still keep busy while lying down, I keep my projects in many boxes, pack them lightly and store them in another room. It's heartbreaking to not be a normal functioning person, sometimes I get bored and play word games on line. Keeps the mind sharp. I've done the exercise when I was able many years ago. It is difficult and depressing, but you gotta do something. Good luck to you!
