Been prescribed prednisone for the flare up in my wrist but have now got a very sore throat. Is this a side effect , should I go back to the docs or will it settle down? Thanks.
Steroids: Been prescribed prednisone for the flare... - LUPUS UK
Steroids
I don't think it would be a side effect of Prednisone, but certainly something to watch. Is it infected, like Strep throat, or just red and irritated? If infected for sure you will want to see doctor.
Can I ask about your wrists? I have what was diagnosed as mild "De Quervains tenosolytis - or something like that anyway - in July this year after a month or so of symptoms. But it is getting worse rather than better. I have bought supports and wear them at work etc. but it does wear you down. I'd be grateful to hear what your condition is and how it's being treated. Thank you.
Hi never heard of de q.......but did just Google it! Lol sounds similar to how mine was but I have lupus, so just assumed it's part of a flare I was having. It has completely settled with the steroids. Good luck on getting sorted.
Yes I have lupus too and it was my rheumatologist who diagnosed it at my follow up appt. I don't see her for another 9 months now. So I guess I just have to live with it. I had a terrible sore throat with my last flare, for about 6 months. I saw an ENT and had a camera up my nose and down my throat - nothing sinister - just part if the lupus. Good luck and I hope it clears up soon.
Can I ask the camera isn't painfu is it, as I am having the same in december as I have a constant paint at the left hand side of my throat..it's worse in the morning then settles down.
Camera is not at all painful.
Steroids give me thrush in my mouth and throat.
Lupus is not fun hey
I had a prolonged severe sore throat which was attributed to reflux (I was unaware I had reflux). - apparently common in lupus and particularly in steroid users. Regular use of Omeprazole seems to have cracked it. Hope this is of some use. C x
Camera wasn't painful. Just weird. But it was all very quick. It has gone now - after about 7 months of the hydroxy. Now 10 months of meds and all symptoms are better but not completely gone. Plus the tendon problem has got worse. It seems this is life with lupus. Never a symptom free day???
Only just seen this post. Hope things have settled now. When I am flaring I get lots of add ons as your immune system is having a hard time coping.
I thought I would mention a sore throat remedy that I only came across today but it worked almost instantly. Make a hot toddy with cayenne/chilli powder and honey. Its not really something that you can drink straight down but just keep taking sips.
I am really glad it seems to be working as I have an extensive enough list of meds and didnt really want to add to it.
If you are still suffering give it a try
