Woke up this a.m. unable to hear in L ear. Feel dizzy, of course, & off-balance. No ringing in ear, just muffled sounds coming through. This happened to me about 5 yrs ago and no cause (wax in ears, too much aspirin etc) could be found. It drove me batty for about 2 months, then resolved after 4 acupuncture treatments.
Now, however, I don't live anywhere close to an acupuncturist anymore. And, have a full time pressure-filled job. I'm also battling sciatica for the 1st time in my life, and taking Aleve and Ibuf every 4 hrs just to be able to hobble around. Still in constant pain.
Could be all connected, who knows. Just wondering if anyone else has ever had this.

Yes and it was an ear infection Maresy, which eventually became chronic. Strange to say it wasn't until I had a routine dental X-ray a couple of years later that we discovered the ear infection was being caused by a large but painless abcess on one of my top molars! The infection had eaten away much of the immediate jaw bone by then. Never would have thought teeth could have anything to do with an ear but worth getting checked.
I've lost a bit of hearing in both ears but its down to osteoarthritis. I was gobsmacked when the ENT specialist told me.....I wake often with tinnitus and that affects my hearing.
I also suffer with sciatica, you have my sympathy there, nightmare pain and once caused me to black out, it was so bad....Hope you get some answers re the hearing loss....
Hearing in my left ear went suddenly without warning at Christmas. Very muffled and bad tinnitus. Saw ENT specialist who thinks it is a chronic ear infection but not sure. Been fitted with a hearing aid in June and hoping it will get better but no guarantee. Hearing aid has improved the tinnitus and hearing loss.

I get a whooshing sound in my left ear a slight muffled hearing and apparently there's nothing wrong with my ears - according to the ent clinic it's a pressure change I'd understand if I was 8 ft but I'm 5 ft 7 and I'm not that high up for that to happen
