Hi everyone

I just wondered if anyone has had hearing problems caused by lupus? I have become profoundly deaf in my left ear very quickly within just a few months which is now beginning to be investigated by ENT - apparently they think it is likely caused by one my auto immune diseases......

I have recently had problems with my ears ringing and sharp pains in my ears. That with a combination of my eye constantly watering has my doctor trying to rule out Cogan's Syndrome and Wegeners. I have all kinds of test this week and have many more to go. I am on methotrexate and my doctor said that is the medicine they would put me on if it turns up I do have either disease. Each of them are autoimmune diseases.

I hope they figure out what is happening with you very soon. Best wishes.

Hi, I have a constant ringing in my left ear, just like someone's tapped a wine glass, it's there all the time seems worst first thing in a morning, get nasty migraines too don't know if you ringing sparks these or not!

As I operate a machine at work the ringing is in the background so not so bad during working hours

Cheers steve

I had a hearing check as I was finding certain levels of sound were tricky. The result was that the audiologist detected a "cookie bite" in both ears and said that it was not age related, but often coincided with certain medications or auto immune disease. I had not mentioned my UCTD at all. I am on methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine. Nothing to be done, apparently, and I luckily still have enough acute hearing to be able to detect a singer going off pitch, although it takes a higher degree of concentration! I do hope that your hearing is ok in your other ear. Horrid for you....xx

I have a severe hearing loss in one ear. It happened one afternoon! and I remember feeling off balance the day before. Drs decided after ruling really nasty things out, that it was as a result of a virus.

Then a few months later I had hair problems...and over the following year more pronounced lupus/CTD symptoms and now take hydroxychloroquine, mycophenolate amongst others.

Is there a link? Who knows but I have read several posts wondering if there is a link.

Thanks guys - seems my audiologist and GP think it is likely to be caused by an acoustic neuroma or otosclerosis as the hearing tests that I had showed I have profound deafness in the left ear :( Just waiting to have an MRI scan to confirm and then referral to ENT Consultant for a treatment plan. I have just come out of a lupus/vasculitis flare up and had a previous flare up just a few months ago so I wonder if they have had something to do with it. It's more frustrating than anything as I can't hear people properly hey ho onwards and upwards :) #keepsmiling
