I have had lupus for 8 years and taking azathioprine and having a flare up at moment.I had a steroid inject last week but not helped much. Has anyone tried other treatment ie chinese or ayurvedic? Would be interesting to see if it helps in any way.

What r your symptoms? Steroid injections are getting a bad rap in the USA right now. My brother in law was doing because he has degenerative bone disease and missing discs. He has stopped.

Hi there, I have tried many therapies, but can honestly say the best thing that has helped me is changing my diet. I stopped gluten, caffeine and dairy, and added things to my diet that had antibacterial qualities, such as apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, garlic etc. I also started taking digestive enzymes and acidophilus. My symptoms all went into remission.

It is hard to keep up though, and sometimes I struggle to keep it up. A good web site for folk remedies is Earth Clinic. Lots of input from varies people and on various illnesses.

All the best.

Thank u jacqueline, Not sure why but someone told me to use spelt flour instead of any other flours also pappaya is meant to be good for inflammation.I am going to try n make changes.

Nettle tea is good for inflammation, too, I only use a pinch in a pint flask and sip it through the day when I have a flare. I only use garlic occasionally as it sends me running to the toilet if I use too frequently. I find rotating everything is best for me, as it seems to lessen the immune reactions.

Hi ush1401

My 17 year old has just been diagnosed with Lupus over a year ago. Since then has been on steroids and plaquenil daily. October 2013 she started her Ayurveda medicines and healthy diet including a detox diet, in preparation to her Panchakarma treatment in India this coming September. Can't wait - i feel positive and have total faith in nature and all it has to over!! I can keep you posted of the outcome, however, its still a few months away....otherwise my opinion would be............go for it!! Nothing to lose except money really x

Hi robpeco, thank u for the reply, I have been given details of a ayurvedic doctor who makes u detox and the treatment. Going to give a try definately. Has your daughter had to reduce her plaquenil or steroids whilst detoxing? After 8 years of meds I think I need to try something different. Please keep me posted on how Your daughter gets on and fingers crossed. All the best.

The Ayurvedic doctor guiding her didnt tell her to reduce the meds. He said that eventually once the local doctors would see the improvement they would start reducing her meds themselves automatically. Infact my daughter is on the lowest doses of Steroid and Plaquenil and she had even stopped them for a while. Will definitely update you on the outcome from her India treatment. Wishing you all the luck too :)

Reflexology and a holistic healer have also both been working wonders on her :)

My daughter in laws parents (both Chinese and doctors) have made several suggestions on Lupus treatments. Sadly none could be used in conjunction with my current meds. However the one thing I do use is a patch for loacalised pain releif which works really well. Sadly it's all in Mandarin.

Thank you margaretgail, I have spoken to a chinese herbalist, sounds good as he does accupuncture, chinese meds. only problem is he wants to massage me which i know my body can't tolerate. may try ayurvedic route.

I use Bach Remedies, few drops in water or straight on the tongue for things like depression, aloofness, dull, angry, calm and many others I find it helps so muchwhen I am flustered.

I'd say you have to believe in any alternate meds.
