Sunshine: Hi all I have worked and got pleasure... - LUPUS UK
Sunshine
If you need to be in sun you must be completely covered with factor 50 and wear a hat. The uv in sunlight actually triggers the lupus to become active. In the summer even diffuse sunlight through windows. Sadly sun is best avoided. The ill feeling is active lupus xx
Hi Alan55 - if you are diagnosed with Lupus then you should stay out of the sun. If you do go out in it, then cover up, wear high factor sunscreen and a hat! You should 'up' your drinking when its hot to avoid dehydration. It's not surprising you feel rough!! The sun makes my Lupus flare, so I avoid it as much as i can.
Hi Kate-L not diagnosed as of yet.21/2 years of hell on and off .This latest attack on me 8 weeks ago has been the worst yet.have noticed when I go out in the sun ,after about an hour I start to dehydrate badly and feel ill.was not sure if this was related to autoimmune conditions .i am a bricklayer and have worked in the sun all my life seems strange that I cannot tolerate it at all now thank,Alan
I holiday twice a year in Turkey (now and September when it is cooler) and have learnt to use factor 50 every day and reapply every 2 hours (I do this in England as well all through the year) - When I go out I where a wide brimmed hat and baggy linen trousers and have a range of long, medium and short sleeved tops to cover up if I start feeling the burn. The good thing about a hot country is that there is always plenty of hard shade (sitting under a standard umbrella is no good as the rays and heat get through). As others have said, plenty of water and some sugary and salty food or drinks. Don't try to do too much but enjoy!
Hi
I don't know if its the sun, the fresh air or the fact I was walking around a water logged field for 3 hours but I've been asleep (like a log) for 3 hours once we got home and i struggled to wake. I covered myself in lotion but I was too vain to take my hat . I thought they would have some there but no. I think my red face and chest has increased but luckily considering how sunny it was I think I may be ok now after rest. I really don't know how sun sensitive I am!
Thanks Whathappened not been diagnosed with anything yet but my gp thinks the fact I have been on 30mg pred for 7 weeks are starting to cause more problems than good so have started to reduce them .have to wait and see what effect this has on my symptoms.they wanted me to drop by 5mg every 5 days but I am dropping by 2.5 every 4 days .just dropped my second dose toady .getting by have upped my dose of painkillers so will continue on this path and see what happens.maybe pred is causing sun sensitivity as well. Thanks.Alan
Unfortunately Alan, I think we are at the stage we cover up and hope we are ok. I don't know any other way of checking it out
Thanks whathappned getting some sunscreen and a baseball cap if I go out in the sun and see if this helps.Alan
Hi Alan it sounds like you may be photosensitive, I am and avoid the sun all year round and all other forms of U.V. light, I have no low energy lighting or florescent tubes in my house. Whenever I go out I wear gloves, scarf, clothes thick enough to block U.V. rays and cover my head. All exposed skin has at least a factor 50 sun cream on it and I reapply regularly, this was all on the advice of my dermatologist. When the U.V. index is very strong I often have a nick name among my friends of the Vampire as I only come out at night as it is the only really safe time to do so.
Good luck
