Can a raynauds patient develop lupus?

I've suffered with raynauds for about 10 years (I'm 55 year old female) & I'm being tested for thyroid involvement. I've recently developed a red, painful rash on my arm which is keeping me awake at night, could this be a symptom of lupus? Would be grateful for any advice.

Hi I had raynauds right from my teens, now in my 40s i have recently found out that i have sle and also antiphospholipid syndrome, however can i just say that a couple of years ago i had a very sore painful rash on my shoulder arm and down one side of my body and when i went to my g.p he diagnosed me with a bad case of shingles .

if you do have lupus anything can effect you and almost three times worse than normal so if you havn,t already please get to your doctor so you can be given the right treatment and advice,

take care.

Thanks for your reply, a friend of mine thought it may be shingles. Waiting on more blood test results so will see what if anything shows up. Can you please tell me how lupus is diagnosed? X

Blood tests and they will go through medical history with you and pin point any indications, I was always very poorly as a child then developed low platelets in my blood, had a number of bloodclots over the years had a mis-carriage with my first pregnancy, then in march this year after a large clot on my lung i was referred to reaumatology and thats when i got a definate diagnosis of lupus.

if your not sure then write as much down as u can about your symptoms and how you are from day to day and take it to your g.p and tell them you want to be referred to a specialist.

I hope you managed to get to your g,p last week and got the rash checked and is getting better.

take care sorry for the late reply.

I have had a rash on my arm for about 6 wks now. Rheumy said it was nothing to do with lupus and to ask gp for referral to dermatology. I had shingles aged 13 so don't think it's that, but very itchy so next gp visit will ask for the referral if not better
