To be on the safe side you should get checked as it is not unusual to have thyroid problems with autoimmune disease such as Lupus and Hughes Syndrome.. and a fast heart beat if it is that rather than panic attack could be a sign of a fast thryoid..... 'graves disease' so at least try and rule it out. Mary F x

I had this and it turned out that I had Pericarditis which is an inflammation of the fluid sack around the heart. So best get it checked out.

Also get your Blood pressure checked as if you have a high BP and pulse rate then it needs investigation.

best of luck....

And.. an underactive thyroid can become overactive - with autoiimmune disease, 'Hashimoto's' - (swinging between the two), and as per post above, I also had a fast heart beat with Pericarditis, so both good for investigation. Mary F x

Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis sufferers tend to get these ectopic beats (it has been observed in research). Having said that, they are normal in many healthy people (I know that they don't feel very 'normal' but that's what cardiologists say).

If thyroid and pericarditis are being ruled out and you're sent to a cardiologist, he will check the health of your heart first but if that's ok, he's likely to tell you not to worry unless they become so obtrusive that they impact the quality of your life. To give you an example of impact - some people have these irregular or ectopic beats for days at a time and all they are given is perhaps propranolol to slow down the heart rate. They are seen as unpleasant rather than worrying.

I have them sometimes too - my longest period has been 10 minutes but I usually get few seconds worth. I raised it with the cardiologist who did a heart MRI and put me on a 7 day ECG - that's when he saw I have supraventricular ectopic beats (as they are called) but the MRI ruled out issues with the heart itself, which was good.

I have what I can only explain as fast heart rate well thats what it feels like, but it seems to come on hen ever I go to sleep I wake up feeling strange and a little sick. It continues all night or if I sleep in the day so sleep seems to trigger it. I haven't said anything to the doctor because it seems so random. My thyroid seems ok. Will check back to see what answer you get. Good luck. Xx
