Hi, I've wanted a tattoo for some time, but my partner worries as I'm on immuno suppressants along with the usual steroids, hydroxy, pain relief etc. Any comments/advice/experience gratefully accepted.
Tattoo, a good idea when on immuno suppressants? - LUPUS UK
Tattoo, a good idea when on immuno suppressants?
I haven't had a new tattoo since going onto the hydroxy and azathioprine - but had two done when I was on just pred and pain relief and it was no different to any of my other pre lupus tattoos apart from a bit of extended healing time.
Looking forward to other replies though as I am panning my next couple!!
I've ha a couple done while on Immuno suppresants, steriods, hydroxy etc
All was fine - got a little light headed, but not sure if that was related to pain killers or the position of tattoo (was under armpit).
I checked with tattooist before getting it done and he was well educated with what conditions to be wary of etc and very helpful (I have seen it suggested in other posts "check with GP" - but unless GP has tats not sure how useful they'll be.. lol)
I have also heard of Tattooist doing "dry runs" or "testers" for people concerned about how their skin will react - that could be an option??
thanks both for the replies, seems like there's no excuse now but to get it done, lol.
I was told I shouldn't have one as I take blood thinners, due to bleeding, the ink would not hold up against the blood so well and would hurt more, in his words a good tattoo would not do you, you would be wasting ur money,
Hi Slowmo, I had a tattoo a year ago whilst on hydroxy and prednisolone and had no problems at all, it was therapy for me. Didn't have any problems with the healing. Hope this helps xxx
I have a friend who is a tottooist and have had lupus for twenty years he has always said that he would rather not ink me as he has seen the problems I have had when I have had surgical procedures and when I end up with ulcers through just cutting myself. So for this reason I wear a medic alert bracelet or leather cuff depending on what I am wearing, the medic alert charity now have a wide range of very attractive jewellery as well as the original discs and have lapel pins that you can wear to draw peoples attention to the fact that you wear it. So if you can't or decide not to be ink'd this is always an alternative to let people know in an emergency that you have medical needs as it is an international organisation. Good luck
