Hi esky,
I was diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis a few years back. I did experience kidney pain then but when I asked the doctors about it they said that "kidneys don't hurt." I do however know better since it's my body. After the initial treatment, the pain subsided but I would still get it at times - when I became tired or was under stress. The pain came back recently, a constant throbbing. I haven't seen a doctor about it - neither I will, I've given up on them - but other than that I feel fine.
Obviously this does not answer your question but at least you know you're not alone.

Thank you for your reply. I keep telling the doc about it. But they keep saying the same thing "kidneys dont hurt". Same as you i know different - I have had kidney stones in the past so I do know better. It just baffles me what is causing it coz somedays it hurts like hell but just put up with it coz "kidneys dont hurt" lol.
I just wanter to know if anyone else gets the same pain. Thank u for your help xx
I'm just wondering why they keep denying it. Like you, there are days (nights?) when the pain keeps me up all night. And yet nothing seems out of the ordinary. My guess is that doctors know very little about this disease.
I agree with you totally. I went to see my gp today as I have had a "viral infection" (gp for dont have a clue lol) for over 6 weeks with a cough. I only went hoping they would finally give me antibiotics to shift the damn thing. But nope ECG and hest xray. I have a chest infection not a heart problem! They make me laugh sometimes xx
I get kidney pain too. I was also told by my consultant that kidneys don't hurt! Well yes they do and a lot, especially when I'm having a flare, haven't had it since starting plaquinal. Not nice!

I was diagnosed via kidney biopsy with WHO grade 4 lupus nephritis and before treatment with rituximab and chemo i suffered with constant flank pain around both kidneys which i was constantly told by both nephrologists and rheumatologists was not caused by my lupus, and yet now following treatment my kidney function has improved and the ache around my kidneys has subsided. I reached the stage were i stopped mentioning the pain as i was always told kidney involvement with lupus is silent and does not cause pain..........maybe these doctors should listen to thier patients rather than other clinicians opinions
I have pain in the kidney area and have suffered kidney stones in the past i went to hospital and had a ct scan they said to me that there was no stones in my kidney's and sent me home with the pain in the kidney area they said it must be strains and ligament pain ...I know my own body and I know its my kidneys that are paining..but what do you do suffer in silence the docs know nothing
Hi, I have kidney pain, went for a scan, they SAID they cant see anything wrong with me, i dont understand That I have pyn for about a week, then just suddenly the next day the pain is gone, I am only taking pain medication. It seems to me it Must be related to lupus, Please someone does anyone have the same symtoms.
Thanks for your reply. I have kidney pain alot and i too know its my kidneys - i had stones about 8 yrs ago. They think its all in our heads - we know our own bodys. its annoying when we know more than them!! They do my head in lol. thanks again. lupir hugs x
Hi just wondering if you ever got any answers from this as the exact same happened to me and it's still happening now, I've been to doctors numerous times and basically been told there's no infection but then given codeine and antibiotics and then sent on my way with no answers as to why I'm crippled in pain!
On the spot, I have the same problem
I feel your pain I've been dealing with pain from my kidneys for 4 years now an nobody could help me until I found a doc who told me it was flank pain like the other fellow said below. Gave me z pack that helped out for awhile and then came back but anyway here web sight that may help u out if your still having the problem. Heathline.com then search flank pain
I am always unsure if I have kidney problems or my adrenal glands hurt. I strongly suspect it is my adrenals, as they are about the size of a walnut and sit on top of the kidneys. That is about the size of my pain, and on each side in my lower back. For kidney problems I take the herb uva ursi. It gets rid of water and is very cleansing to the kidneys. It has probably saved my life.
I'm 33 and have been dealing with obvious kidney pain for almost 13 years. I have had xray and ct scans. CT showed what was called "peppered" where I had ALOT of really tiny stones. I have had debilitating pain for the last 12 months everyday. I pass kidney stones on a regular basis due to the small size. I have had vicodin in every strength. It helps with the pain for a few hours. What helps me fastest is to drink 1-2 16oz bottles of water immediately. After doing some research I tried taking "kratom" in liquid form. also comes in vitamin caps. It would work for a few hours. Not to mention the taste is horrific. Viva-zen works for me the very best. I pick them up at a local "smoke shop/head shop. It is a 2oz shot that has Kratom, White Willow Bark, White Lotus, Wild Dagga, Skullcap, Boswellia and California Poppy. The taste is tolerable. It usually kicks in within 15-20 mins. I get up to 8 hours of relief where I can function. Effects are very similar to small doses of vicodin (5mg). varies person to person. Does not get you "high". I prefer it to actual vicodin. Works faster, better, last longer for me. I get the same side effect as I do from vicodin. It may or may not make me a little nauseated for a few mins. Only if I get really hot working or playing around. For 2 years I've only drank bottled water (nothing out of a faucet) v8 vitamin water. No tea's, soda, coffee, or alcohol. Hope this helps.
