Sounds wierd but does anyone else suddenly get a really itchy part of their body and then all of a sudden the same area is covered with purple blood spots?
Possible it's the scratching that ruptures the capillaries causing the spots but wondered what other's experiences were??
Ta!

snap, at first thought it must be the shower gel but having used different gel and no gel still happens. the wonders of Lupus.
When I was having chemo last year - I would be able to feel what was about to happen before it happened. I would get a kind of buzzing/itching/pain just under my skin - and when I would look you could see the blood spot spreading under the skin. Happily this has stopped now.
Are you taking steroids? What other drugs are you taking? Lots of drugs thin the skin and I think this is at least partly the cause.
Hmm..interesting! I don't take anything apart from Hydroxy. But my skin has always been thin and I bruise a lot. I also have slight varicose veins. I was born with skin problems as slightly early....which leads onto my next post I think...
I have tho blood spots all over my lower legs, and itchy upper arms and back, i try not to scratch on my legs as i bruise really easy and before you know it wham a huge bruise, knees are always black as i kneel alot in work. My blood spots and itching tend to get worse if the water in the bath is to warm. I have vasculitus also a purple cornbeef rash i used to think it was till i was informed that its the pattern like a honey comb, or 50p pattern all joined up uzi do you have this pattern, mines in inside if arms and lower legs and knees. Xxx
My hands itch but sometimes i have come out with a random raah all over my body. Lasts a few days still dont know what it is, dont know whether it is lupus or something else completely! X
I too get this - particularly on upper legs and lower tummy and on the arms - seems to happen more often near blood vessels. The itching starts inside, well underneath the skin, then the purple spots (and soreness) appear. I am not on medication, so seems to be 'part and parcel' of living with SLE ..very frustrating at times!! xxx
I have lived with itching under my skin since I have had lupus, its there all the time. It feels like I have insects crawling under my skin and it intensifies during flares and infections.
im very interested in this question as I too get "itchy spots" and its lovely to scratch them but then I get "purple bruises" that might last for weeks after??? I didn't have time to ask my rhuemmy last month as she was due to go to meeting and I was practically pushed out the door after a steroid jab in my knee!? I given up going to GP (only for my medication reviews) as none of them know about lupus x
I also have the small blood spots on the inside of my arms and on my abdomen but they don't itch. Once they appear they don't go away. I do get random itchiness in other places though, especially lower legs and like some of the others above I get bruises where I scratch.
Hi im Isobel and over the past year or so when ever i have a bath or shower well actually in contact with water my body goes really itchy even when im laying in the bath my chest and neck start to itch. It then goes red really hurts afterwords. Also randomly i get shocking pains through my arms and legs and when i get to close to materials it fells like loads of ants are crawling on me. Can anyone one help? Thanks x
