Quick Q...

steadilymovingforward profile image

Sounds wierd but does anyone else suddenly get a really itchy part of their body and then all of a sudden the same area is covered with purple blood spots?

Possible it's the scratching that ruptures the capillaries causing the spots but wondered what other's experiences were??

Ta! :)

Hi,yes I get this especially on my legs.

I also get stupidly itchy all over my legs and arms every time I have a bath or shower.

snap, at first thought it must be the shower gel but having used different gel and no gel still happens. the wonders of Lupus.

When I was having chemo last year - I would be able to feel what was about to happen before it happened. I would get a kind of buzzing/itching/pain just under my skin - and when I would look you could see the blood spot spreading under the skin. Happily this has stopped now.

Are you taking steroids? What other drugs are you taking? Lots of drugs thin the skin and I think this is at least partly the cause.

Vasculitis also has this effect..

Hmm..interesting! I don't take anything apart from Hydroxy. But my skin has always been thin and I bruise a lot. I also have slight varicose veins. I was born with skin problems as slightly early....which leads onto my next post I think...

I also have the purple spots but only on my legs and sometimes my lower arms. I itch all over so I don't know if theres a connection or not.

I also get the itch after bath and shower and extremely itchy palms, I use Aveeno cream for the itch, it really helps :) x

I too get this - particularly on upper legs and lower tummy and on the arms - seems to happen more often near blood vessels. The itching starts inside, well underneath the skin, then the purple spots (and soreness) appear. I am not on medication, so seems to be 'part and parcel' of living with SLE ..very frustrating at times!! xxx :)

I have lived with itching under my skin since I have had lupus, its there all the time. It feels like I have insects crawling under my skin and it intensifies during flares and infections.

im very interested in this question as I too get "itchy spots" and its lovely to scratch them but then I get "purple bruises" that might last for weeks after??? I didn't have time to ask my rhuemmy last month as she was due to go to meeting and I was practically pushed out the door after a steroid jab in my knee!? I given up going to GP (only for my medication reviews) as none of them know about lupus :( x

I'm so glad I came across this.

I've been getting paranoid about bedbugs, midges and shower gels etc..!!!.

I have blood spots across my midriff at the minute, but whole body feels like field 'insects crawling under my skin'. great discription.

xxxx

I also have the small blood spots on the inside of my arms and on my abdomen but they don't itch. Once they appear they don't go away. I do get random itchiness in other places though, especially lower legs and like some of the others above I get bruises where I scratch.

I wash with Aqueous Cream and then moisturize with Balneum Cream followed by a steroid cream Betnovate.

I found this helped and manages to get it to a routine, it only affected my arms, but it's now started on my legs.

So twice a day I use the balneum cream and Betnovate cream and this has started to get it under control.

The Betnovate and balneum cream I get on prescription but the aqueous cream you can get in the supermarket.
