sle and poor balance
Hi lindabrown
I have had balance problems for quite a few years, mine was caused by having Encephalitis which then led to Lupus (SLE), my advice would be to talk to your doctor about it, they may be able to find out what's causing it
All the best

I can fall over my own shadow, sometimes I think its just me being clumsy but have tried all sorts of heels, from killer heels to the flatest pair of shoes you can find and I still fall over and like you I am not dizzy
I get dizzy and off balance, sometimes I am frightened to walk down the stairs and hold on to the bannister. I feel like I walk like a drunk, embarassing. People think I'm clumsy because I am covered with bruises but that is the steroids and the aspirin I think. Take care
I too fall over a lot but it is because I get very dizzy and walk around like a drunk a lot of the time.
I too get slightly dizzy and feel off balance, had it since the lupus was diagnosed 18 years ago. But hooray, since i've been established on Mycophenolate I feel almost normal. That, together with having been referred for physiotherapy have helped hugely. My trunk and legs now feel much stronger so that even if i feel a bit 'drunk' I can stand and walk confidently.
hi, I also get very dizzy and have had some bad falls, I even lay in bed sometimes and feel like the bed is tipping (It looks very strange when I grab the bed to stop myself falling.) Last week I saw my rheumy, he has said it could well be connected with Lupus and has suggested it could be labrynthitis ( please forgive my spelling) this causes inflammation affecting balance. I hope this helps you to get some answers and that you feel better soon, Take care
Thanks for all your responses. Have made an appt to see my gp so hopefully get it sorted out.x
Hi
my story is similiar to Wandeer72, I had labrythitis- badly for a couple of weeks about 4 years ago- I was so dizzy I had to crawl to the toilet to throw up- I was actually clinging to the toilet bowl as it too was swaying! (looking back it is funny). Like most SLE Lupus patients it took about 2 months to shake the virus- but I think it comes back- slightly if I am run down or a flare is threatening. I am therefore thinking I need to work on my balance to cope so I have bought myself a pair of roller skates (I know sounds mad). I used to skate loads when I was younger, and my daughter was bought a pair of in-line skates for Christmas. So if your in a park and see a middle aged woman zooming around (hopefully) with an eight year old- it will be me!!!!
xo
Hi, I am having the same problem. I just got back from the doctors last week and he said it was caused by Lupus. I sure would like to know how.
