I take max painkillers so for direct joint pain I use tiger balm, the white is more menthol, the red is stronger I get my husband to put it on at night and not only doesit give warmth to the area but for the next 12ish hours pain decreases.( every now and then I do react so you wash it off )
I have chest wall pain on my left and I find that if you use a firm full pillow and hug it I find i sleep better on my side it keeps my rib/lungs open and stops me rolling over and if I want to sleep slightly more on my front then it cushions my ribs and chest.
Third tip but works for me if abit wierd...
I cant meditate for toffee but I have found if I picture my pain as a black storm cloud above my head, I lay somewhere warm and quiet and I go through areas of my body taking the pain and adding to this cloud and the aim is to make each area to relax, once you cant feel anymore tension I picture putting this cloud into a box with loads of locks and I put it in a warehouse hidden somwhere in the back ( bit like indiana jones warehouse in film) and its lost forever... it helps when laying in bed and cant relax.
