Yes, probably Christine. Cortico-steroids can also cause edema in the feet and legs though, epecially in warm weather.

Hi there,

Yes it could well be. I have had SLE for 28 years and my feet swell all the time and a rash appears on my legs, arms and face.My feet swell so much and the joints are affected that I have to move around on my knee's because i cannot put my feet onto the ground. Then because I'm shuffling about on my knees, my knee joints swell. It is a losing battle.

Typed by my daughter, dictated by me. Sharron.

I wish I could tell you or give you advice but the only thing I can say is 'is that you may just have to ride out the swelling until it goes down.'

Best wishes to you.

Swelling of the feet could also be a sign of something wrong with your kidneys, as I know all too well. Take a mid stream urine sample taken first thing to your local GP and get the nurse to check it, also you need to get your blood pressure checked and ask the GP if there is anything he/she can give you for the swelling. I have chronic kidney disease, I have fluid retention tablets to relieve the swelling . Hope it isn't your kidneys but better safe than sorry. Also, in the mean time, try eating grapes , they help me when they are really bad, soak your feet in cold water, then put them up above your heart. At one time I had loads of towels under the bottom of my mattress to help :) sitting still with your legs down doesn't help, a little exercise and when you sit put your feet up. Another tip, if you work sitting at a table put a couple of waste bins, under you table, with a cushion on the top put your feet up and a desk fan blowing on them to keep them cool! Until a person has suffered with problem they can't appreciate how uncomfortable it is or how miserable it can make you feel. Take care and look after yourself x
