Should I ask for a new assessment - fourth edition

Finally got to see the Chemotherapy Consultant. She was very nice, very patient and explained everything thoroughly, not just about the chemotherapy but the state of my cancer too. I learned quite a bit about myself and my cancer and many questions were answered.

End result is that I start palliative chemotherapy next week. I know there are no guarantees of success, but I am loathe to pass up an opportunity of treatment after I have nagged and pestered everyone for so long and asking why nothing is happening.

I start on carboplatin and pemetrexed and hope I get another lucky break and it works. If it all goes to pot, at least I enjoyed the summer, thanks to the unusually successful sessions of palliative radiotherapy and will always be grateful for this unexpected bonus.

I hope everyone else is feeling as lucky as I do.

hope your treatment goes well - great approach to life - keep on keeping on.... many of us think palliative means instant end of life which isn't the case as many patients are on treatable but not curable treatments for a long time. treatments are to palliate (relieve) symptoms. There is also confusion about palliative care services - this new video from mesothelioma UK (a specific type of lung cancer related to asbestos exposure) explains it far better than I can.... glad you've had all your questions answered too - so important. thinking of you - x
