Update - friend with bronchogenic adenocarcinoma

Hello all,

Thanks again for your replies to my original post as a newbie for a friend.

She saw her rad/onc today and the PET results are encouraging! No cancer showed up outside the lungs. He recommends she see a thoracic surgeon for her 5 cm mass (golf-tennis ball size) to see if she is a candidate. She is 77 so age may be a factor. Other than that, he recommends stereotactic ablative radiotherapy. That is highly concentrated. Both have risks.

My questions:

- whether anyone has had the surgery and what was your outcome, your side effects?

- for those who have had stereotactic ablative (body) radiation - outcome? adverse effects?

Immunotherapy is not on the table for now.

Thanks much for your insights,

marcyh

I’m 68 and just recently had MRI-guided stereotactic radiation to a tumor that butted next to the pericardium and diaphragm. The tumor was 5cm and is starting to shrink. The dr said it will continue to shrink for 3 months. I still have pain at the site because the radiation causes some swelling. Will know more with the next CT Scan. Radiation is less traumatic to the body so i would think the dr would opt for that first due to her age.

Thanks. I'm glad to hear it is having some effect for you. I will let her know this. Her tumor is 5 cm as well. Her rad/onc wants her to see a surgeon first.

Best wishes!
