New 6 mm nodule at 27 months post LLL lobectomy

This one is a solid noncalcified nodule in the upper right lobe along with a new borderline subcarinal adenopathy. This info comes from the radiologist report. I meet with my oncologist in two weeks. My internet research leads me to fear that it could be a regional metastasis from the adenocarcinoma removed with my LLL. I'm thinking we will probably do another CT scan within three months to look for growth.

I have been so lucky to have avoided chemo, but I fear I may have run out of luck. I've looked at statistics and they are not encouraging. I will talk to the oncologist about a liquid biopsy to see if any DNA strands are detectable. If the nodule grows, a needle biopsy may be appropriate if the nodule is accessible. Of course it may be benign. Hope is a wonderful thing but reality must be dealt with head on.

I will share any new info with you lovely people.

Rick

Best wishes to you, Rick. I’ve had more than 60 chemo treatments and am doing well with cancer STABLE four years since diagnosis. Hang on to hope, and i dare say get off/don’t worry about the Internet research...data for lung cancer longevity is outdated by the time it is published because of treatment advances in the past 5 years.

Take care,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, I understand and agree that statistics are just impersonal numbers. We are individuals.......and this is a new day. You are obviously a strong individual and you must have a supportive family. I have a very supportive family, but have some doubts about my inner strength at 71 years old. I'm not one to give up, though, and I appreciate the sharing here. Thanks, Rick

Hi rdflynnjr, please do not jump to conclusions. Almost certainly they will schedule another CT scan in 3 months. Then if no significant growth, schedule another CT scan in 6 months. BestWishes, judg69

Hi judge69, I am a boater and that means I am always looking ahead for trouble so I can be prepared to deal with it. Sure, this cancer thing is a bit different, but I still have to look at all the possibilities. I can't help it. I can still laugh, although my humor can be a bit macabre. Thanks, Rick.

You’ve got a good handle on your next steps. Good for you! Sending hope that it something non cancerous like histoplasmosis.

Rick, I agree with jenniferroseolson, don't look at statistics on the internet. I did when I was first diagnosed, and the first thing I read was a 60% survival. Right then and there I decided information like that was not going to help me, and from that point on all I looked up were lung cancer survivors stories. Can't tell you how much that help me. Best of luck.

Hi Travelhappy, I agree that the stats should not me taken to heart. We need to communicate with our fellow survivors. That is where we get our best information.

Noticed that you were following me now. If you ever need some advice on possible supplements/vitamins/or herbs that might help let me know. As an adjunct to your main treatment they can help. I'm 58 so, I'm old enough to have been around the block once or twice too. Hang in there, stay positive and keep the faith! I for one believe that you can beat this!
