Happy New year! Well I just left my oncologist and he is switching my chemo because the carboplatin and Gemzar arent working. Has anyone had any experience with these two drugs we are switching to? I understand I will lose my hair this time.

Nobody has had Docetaxel? I have heard its an older and previously used chemo drug. Would really like to hear from someone who has been on it.

Docetaxel is also referred to as taxotere (not sure of the spelling). My oncologist used both names which led to some confusion on my part till he explained they were the same. I was on it for 3 rounds , in conjunction with cisplatin, to knock down my tumor size so they could do surgery with clean margins. I lost my hair very quickly and abruptly, but didn't have other direct side effects. However, my oncologist was super about prophylactic treatment to prevent side effects - hope yours is also. Best of luck to you on this new course of treatment!

Enjoyabull,

Lots of people have experience with docetaxel, you will probably get a response soon.

My hairdresser advises getting a really, really short pixie cut rather than shaving the head when hair loss is in the future to avoid possible cuts to the scalp and skin irritation which may not ready heal while under chemo. The short, short hair that is left may still fall out, but that is less traumatizing and looks better than having clumps of longer hair fall out.
