Has anyone had liposuction for their lipoedema? Was it successful? Who did the surgery? I am considering surgery. My lipoedema is mild at moment but would rather look into this before it gets too bad

If you are in the UK, have a look at lipoedema.co.uk

Also, if you are on Facebook, there are a number of patient groups related to liposuction for lipoedema - look for Talk Lipoedema or Talk Lipoedema for Liposuction, or Lipoedema Ladies

This site is tends to be more lymphoedema related, although there are a few lipoedema patients involved.

Hi,

It's almost impossible to get NHS funding for Liposuction for Lipoedema.

It's not a cure by the way and you'd probably still need to wear hose afterwards.

( I have been to Lipoedema UK conferences and can highly recommend them to anyone with the condition. I've heard Ann Dancy, surgeon, talk about her methods for helping Lipoedema patients but she now only sees patients privately. Have a look at her website, it's very helpful.)

I am getting liposuction for secondary lymphoedena, and have been on their list for 6m now. you can be referred by your GP chechkout NHS website for lymph. My referral was straightforward.

Hi, I’m intrigued.. where are you having your op ? Where did your GP refer you to ?

My procedure has been postponed, naturally, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

I know my CCG is the first in the country to routinely say all Lymphoedema patients who have been “ prescribed” the procedure may have it.

(After 6 years of bids by the team at St George’s.)

I wish you all the very best.

I think I have mild lipoedema as a result of secondary lymphoedema in one leg. If it's OK I have a couple of questions:

Does lipoedema need to be fairly advanced in order to warrant referral for liposuction?

I understand that a committment to wearing compression, possibly 22/24 for life, is a condition for referral for liposuction - is this your experience?
