lymphodaema and incontinence link and machines that can help

Hi I’ve read a few posts on here that mention a link between incontinence and lymphodaema, I was just wondering how many people experience this? I’ve had bladder problems and mentioned to the consultant I saw that I have lymphodaema but they didn’t mention a link, they just told me to lose weight round my middle!!

I’ve recently seen a few machines advertised that claim to help with the swelling in legs and abdomen and wondered if anyone had recommendations please?

Hi Hazel - before you start investing in machinery, get an assessment from a specialist Genito-Urinary physiotherapist - you may need to go privately but it could be worth it to find the right equipment you can get benefit from.

I am an active and somewhat in shape 77-year-old male who has had lymphedema since I was 18 years old. It first started in my left leg and then some 54 years later spread to my right leg, stomach and pelvic area. I have been in the hospital several times over the years for lymphangiograms and cellulitis. I have used at least five different pump machines for my legs and at present use two pump machines every night - one for my stomach area and one for my legs. I have been in compression garments at one time or another since the age of 18 and currently where two compression garments, one for each leg, and a stomach compression shorts. I have suffered urinary frequency for years, which has increase to include some incontinence and difficulty urinating after the lymphedema spread. So, I think I can say definitively that the swelling contributes tremendously to my urinary problem as the problem gets worse each day as the swelling gets worse. I get totally depressed at the end of each day as I deal with the problem.
