Propranolol

Has anyone taken propranolol 20mg? I have generalized anxiety disorder but it has gotten worse due to life events... I'm on pristiq 50mg and my doctor really wants me to start the propranolol but I'm nervous. What are your experiences?

Thank you so much. I have constant anxiety and it's the dizziness that ruins me. I hope it will help with that. I'm so nervous because I always get bad side effects with everything!

Oh snap!!!i have constant lightheaded/dizziness and heart palpitations too.the propranolol hasn’t helped with the dizziness but does with the palps. I’m thinking of trying an anti anxiety med for the lightheadedness.i hope you get on well with the propranolol.what dosage have you been prescribed?

So I take desvenlafaxine (pristiq) 50 mg for the anxiety everyday and then I also take 1 mg of lorazepam 2x a day for the dizziness. She wanted me to go on propranolol so I didn't have to rely on lorazepam so much.. but if it doesn't help my dizziness ... Then I'll still need lorazepam lol. She prescribed 20 mg propranolol.

I just quickly read a couple of your entries, and just to let you know, I have dizziness Every single day. Been suffering with it for years now. That's why I depend on lorazepam so much. A lot of the stuff you said sounds exactly like me except I don't really get heart palpitations much.

Hi there. I have been on propanolol for 4 years and it works great to reduce the physiological affects of GAD (racing heart) but it won't do anything to help the racing thoughts. So if you feel like you get heart palpitations and trembly hands then yeah definitely take it. I am on 40mg once daily.

Thanks so much. It's more for my physical anxiety. That's how my anxiety manifests... Usually physical side effects to ruin my entire day.. like dizziness and such.

Thank you

Has the pristiq helped much with the cognitive side of your anxiety or was that prescribed for depression?

in reply toFitchick32

I feel like the pristiq has helped all my crazy thoughts settle down... It was prescribed for anxiety. not so much the physical anxiety.. the dizziness. Ugh, its so terrible.

I take propranolol as needed (usually 10mg). I have GAD and for the last month been constantly shaky and dizzy/lightheaded. The propranolol only seems to lower my heart rate and not help with the other physical symptoms. I’ve been taking celexa for years for anxiety but I really feel it doesn’t do anything for me anymore.

Has the propranolol helped you out at all?

in reply toladydoot

I've been taking it for a couple months now. I'm not sure if I feel much difference. My life just sucks and I have anxiety constantly.

I hear ya. I don’t feel like any med really helps my anxiety.
