Anxious...

Hey guys,

I've been under a lot of stress recently, going to University and living away from home for the first time. I randomly just got a strange tingling pain while I was walking, and it continued to hurt until I sat down. It also hurt to take a deep breath in. Only lasted about 10 sec but now it has me really anxious that there is something wrong with me. My left arm is all tingly and my back really hurts, and I feel really anxious and tired now.

I have been working with a physiotherapist to correct my posture because I have compressed many nerves in my shoulder and neck, and she said it is normal to feel some pain, but I have never felt this before. I'm really scared there is something wrong with me, anybody felt this before?

I should also mention I have had an EKG and blood work done about four weeks ago and all came back normal. My doctor said my heart and lungs are perfectly fine but I have a hard time believing him because of the pain I feel.

Hi Laura x

Welcome to the site x

I can imagine that you are under a extreme amount of stress at the moment with uni and the rest, and its adds to the stress when you feel that something has gone wrong with health etc x It sounds to me as if when walking you actually pulled something, which is easily done x I can imagine the anxiety is high as the stress will add to this, but the best thing would be to see your gp and ask them about it, as it could be the simplest of things x It could also be that when receiving the physio its relaxing your body so when you walk and it tenses it causes a little more pain x mention it to them next time you go x If you have had tests that show nothing more is wrong then take them at their word and try to put it aside, when you are anxious you naturally tense your shoulders etc and dont realise you are, this could be adding to the problem x try to relax xx Donver

Evening Laura.

Welcome to the site I don't think we have chatted before.

I am pleased you have been checked out with doctor and have had bloods done etc. so that's all good news.

Try and remember what the physo said, it's normal to feel some pain.

I know it can be frightening having pain you have not felt before, this can send your anxiety shooting up.

When you next see your physo talk to her about these pains you are feeling.

I am no doctor, so you could always have a word with your doctor about how you are feeling.

Keep posting on here as we will all support you.

Hi Laura and welcome.

Don't tnink we've chatted before.Going to uni and leaving home are very stressful events to cope with,so not surprisingly your feeling anxious and stressed out right now,.

Worrying about different pains adds to this and then you get into the vicious circle of anxiety making toy worry, and the worry making you more anxious.

You've had tests that came back normal, but somehow you don't believe that.

Believe me you are not alone feeling like that,we all have felt the same way.Try and relax, and I know that's not easy either.Have you tried any of the relaxation and meditation sites you can down load.Mindfullness,Headspace and Calm.com are just a few.

Keep posting here,we are here to listen and help, you are not alone.

Take care xxxx

Hey and welcome!

First of well done getting into uni! Hope things go well,

I can imagine it is stressful and maybe you pulled somethin or the stress is affecting you?

The best thing is to go get checked out for peace of mind!

Hope you're feeling better soon x

Hi & Welcome :-)

Oh it is a big thing leaving home & going to Uni

My eldest who is now 34 went to Uni & she was home sick for quite a while but eventually she did settle in fact the Uni she went to she settled that much that after her degree she worked there & has never left the city since even though she is in a different job there now , so give it time

But I know having some health problems must be adding to how you are feeling & sounds like a little Health Anxiety is creeping in adding to your fears

Mention it to the doctor when you next speak to them but I am sure it will be all part of the nerve problem you have but will help to reassure you :-)

Let us know how you get on :-)

Love
