Admitted to ICU beginning November (I can't remember) finally diagnosed with meningococcal pneumonia, cavitating pneumonia (I was fit & never smoked) so took a while to find. One full lung not working 75% of other lung not working, contracted sepsis twice. Just about to go on ward when I deteriorated rapidly after 10 days. (can't remember) put in induced coma & transferred to Freeman hospital induced coma for two weeks. Tracheostomy fitted to begin weaning, learning to walk again very difficult times. I pushed myself to come home for Christmas 2020 after two months in hospital. I'm nowhere near ready to go back to work (I don't drive) so walk everywhere & i am cleaner in school I realise how ill I actually was but continually worried in case I can't get benefits to help me. They also found I have overactive parathyroid gland I was told it will take a long time to recover especially as my breathing is still bad so struggle still going up & down stairs.

You have been through a lot and need to give yourself time to recover. I'm sure your GP would be very understanding of your situation if you speak to them. Could Citizens Advice give you any information on help available regarding benefits or financial support while you are recovering?

My husband was in hospital (and rehab) for about 5 and a half months. He came home at the end of January and he isn't ready to get back to work yet although he has improved a lot since returning home.

Be kind to yourself xx
