I find that doing exercise helps me mentally as well as physically.

When I first got diagnosed with APS 10 years ago I was in so much pain I could hardly move...Then when they put me on Warfarin it helped enough to start moving but by then I had put on around 3 stone !! :o

I hated me........even though it made my joints/body hurt so much in the beginning, I made myself start going to gyms & swimming & doing regular exercise........eventually I lost most of the weight & feel so much better for it too.

I now go at least twice a week & find that if I dont/cant go for 2 weeks or more my joints seem to sieze up & hurt more, so I think it benifits us by doing exercise, even if it just light exercise or even just swimming :)

Today I did 1hr & 15mins in my gym :o ( 1/2 hr on rowing machine, 20 mins on cross trainer, the rest on various machines, sit ups & twists! ) then went for a 1hr 'Zumba' class!!!!!! :o sometimes I wonder how/why I do it....but I'm think it's I'm scared if I stop....'it' will get me?! :(

I'm tired now....but I feel better for doing it...I think it's the most EVER I've done in a gym!!! :)

I cant keep up with most of the Zumba class but it is still fun & I 'tap out' what I cant keep up with...... but it still helps.

Hope if any of you are concidering trying gyms out to see if it will benifit you this helps you in knowing it may help especially if you are as stubborn as me!!

xx

Hi Suzi,

I love my exercise too and try and do some when I have not got a sore head !!

It seems to make my headache worse after exercise. Yes, I think its good for the circulation but everybody is different to how they respond. On a good day, I will swim for fifteen mins and do 45mins in the gym and really enjoy it and feel terrific, but the following day I certainly pay for it !!! My feet burn and are so sore and my legs stiffen up that I find it hard to walk properly and my head feels like its going to burst So personally, I don't know whether its of benefit to me. Mentally,I could not think of anything better than exercise. Swimming makes me relax and stops me thinking about APS !!!!!

Take care

Hi Suzi, just thought I'd share my exercise regime too. I go to the gym 3 times a week, most weeks anyway and also do an hour zumba per week. Julie-Anne, I agree with you about the headaches - I seem to get them after I've warmed up, wonder why that is? Does anyone know the reason for this? I've also got to agree that some days I can hardly get out of bed and can be really achy but what can we do? As I don't work, I really need this kind of structure in my life and on the whole I think exercise is beneficial to us. I can't say I'm super fit - I actually need to lose weight despite exercising! Take care xx

In a moment of complete madness I got a bike, best thing I have done in a long time. I feel fitter and healthier doing some exercise and have lost weight. I did get an extra padded sadddle.......

I am lucky that I have 7 miles of seafront to cyle along all on the flat, I do use it to get around the town, but walk round the corners had one or two near accidents. I also get off to cross the roads my traffic sense is not all that it could be.

However, all in all great fun though not for everybody.

well done for doing your bit in exercise how big or how small, I feel we need it mentally too :)

I'm still tired from what I did!! then yesterday I mowed & strimmed the lawns.....so tired at the mo! but I feel better in myself for doing it & it benifits me more than if I didn't do it as it affects me if I dont do much,

yes I agree it isn't for everyone, as some may be worse than others & find it very hard to do any exercise, but if possible try going to a local pool as it all helps & gets us out of the house too :)

Take care in what ever you do, xx

Hi Suzy

I go a wander with partner and the dogs at least 5 days a week. I do use scooter sometimes if i`m feeling really rough. But just getting out and keeping up with dogs and kids lifts my spirits. then I feel better.

Fresh air does help, and like you say anything to get out of the house.

take care hon, gentle hugs love Jessielou xxx(Sheena) xxx:-) :-)
