low libido - following poll re testosterone...

Hi

i was heartened (weird thing to say in the context) to read that other people suffered from a low libido - it may not be "just me"!!

i will definitely ask my doc about testosterone/progesterone/hormone tests but sadly was in hosp this morning so that may be a way off. So in the meantime...

I spoke to a herbal person to see if there were any recommendations. I will run them passed a doc but wondering if anyone has tried them and if so what were the results?

Dong Quai

Horny Goat Weed

Licorice and cranberry have anticoagulant properties as well.

Hi I have used natural progesterone for years... which is totally different from the synthetic big pharma version. Used to be available on NHS now I import it! Thyroid problems lower libido! xx

I do know that some herbal supplements can counteract warfarin.

Been experiencing the same issue myself. Tried DHEA for a short while, but it was amplifying my seizures. Come to find out DHEA has a hormonal side effect.

Found 7-Keto, it's a metabolite of DHEA, but without the hormonal side effects. Been taking that for the last several months now,

I feel like my "normal" self once again.

Hi Tasch

I have thought about asking this question befor but didn't. So I'm glad to hear like you that it's not just me. I seem to have no interest at all in the s word I thought it was down to feeling tired all the time, trying to keep working, raising a child etc etc, so by 7pm I just want to get my pjs on and chill on the sofa and do nothing. But maybe there is something else as well with hormones it would be interesting to hear from others.

Please, please talk to your doctor about the hormone deficiency and any treatment, medication or herbal. As some have pointed out, certain herbs or suppliments that may help hormones actually endanger the lives of people with APS. (This is the same with other herbs & other diseases.) People give recommendation out of concern & kindness, not realizing that if someone followed their advice, it could cause their death. So never take anything without your doctor authorizing it, & I would even suggest discussing it with your pharmacist as they are more on top of med/herb interactions & specific health conditions & herb interactions than most doctors are. My pharmacists have had to call my doctors a number of times because a Rx was given that shouldn't have been given with certain health conditions.

I am thankful that so many are now responding to this topic. I have asked this question about low testosterone/low hormones along with APS a number of times in the past 5 years since my husband was diagnosed with both - the APS first & the lowT later after having the symptoms for a year. But no one ever replied to my previous inquiries. So I am thankful that more people are feeling comfortable enough to talk about it & they realize that it isn't just a matter of low libido & fatigue - it really is life threatening.
