Is aspirin enough

Hi all I hope you are all well. I was just wondering how many of you are on aspirin and that's it and is it doing its job of keeping the clots away. And also when you had clots did you know straight away and has any one not suffered a clot just has the symptoms and blood work. Thanks for any answers in advance. H x

I was diagnosed around September of last year and have been on baby aspirin since. No clots, only migraines before starting the aspirin and now nothing like I had. I found out I had APS by chance with bloodwork. I pray eveyday the APS doesn't progress and aspirin will be enough. Im curious to know how you found out you have APS and when. Good luck.

I totally understand as I freak out about any strange feeling in my body, which seem more common these days. Don't know what's real or plain paranoia. I tested rather high in all the APS tests. I take my baby aspirin, drink tons of water everyday, and eat other natural blood thinners some days of the week, ie. Garlic, etc. I also try to exercise and eat right (most days). : ). So far that seems to be working I suppose.... Keep in touch.

I know what you mean when I first found out I was going to hospital every two weeks I just couldn't cope thinking it could happen at any time.ive just started to research the food for natural blood thinning and am gonna start this ASAP. I've heard garlic is very good what other foods have you been taking? Some people have recommended this drink called fruit flow have you heard about that? H x

My rheumatology consultant recommended me to take aspirin and I have been taking 75mg daily for 2 and a half years now. I was initially anxious because I do use an asthma inhaler and get tight chested and I was told that clopidogrel (Plavix) is an alternative for people who are asthmatic and sensitive to aspirin. Fortuately I am not sensitive to aspirin and aspirin is a simpler and much less expensive medicine. Since taking aspirin I have felt much better. I used to get tired during the day and need to sleep for an hour in the afternoon and I don’t anymore, and the circulation in my lower legs and feet has improved a lot. My feet were always cold and my toes looked blue. The skin on my lower legs has improved and is less dry and hair is growing again. I still have blotchy skin (livido reticularis) on my legs but I have never had a clot. I think if I had a stroke or a clot my rheumatologist would prescribe warfarin.

Hi Moonbug

I've been on aspirin since being diagnosed in 2008. I was initially on 75 mg but because of migraines (my speech can go peculiar along with other symptoms and I have had one hemiplegic atttack - my sister has hemiplegic migraines and my nephew is epileptic), fuzzy headedness and other aches and pains, it was upped to 150 mg. It has played havoc with my stomach and I have to go for a colonoscopy soon. I have never had a clot, fortunately, but like everyone else has said, some aches and pains can get you worried. When I had a CT scan I had a zero calcium score which I was told meant that my 'pipes' are completely clear and not furred up which is apparently very unusual, so perhaps this works in my favour. I also have very strong veins, though I'm not sure whether this would help in a clotting situation. They are very protuberant and the nurses love them (they look horrible!) because it's so easy to take blood and they say they are firm and don't wobble! They prove endlessly fascinating to children during the hot weather. They look almost reptilian but I haven't shown the kids my scales yet.........!

Hi, I take 300mg aspirin pday & have been told its okay to up this to 600 when feeling 'fuzzy'. I have been taking aspirin since 2001, started on 75mg, can't remember when it was increased. I also used to freak about the blood clots but I have been assured that I would def know. I'm sure others would be able to give you more details but I have been told the area feels very hot to touch. I haven't had a clot except during pregnancy so I guess the aspirin is working. I also use clexane injections as precaution when travelling on long flights.

for some people taking aspirin may be ok. One week ago my INR was 3.9 and just today I have had confirmation of a superficial clot in the arm, if I was only on aspirin it may well have been a more serious clot.

Hi again Moonbug,

Sounds like you and I are going through similar worries. I feel for you. I of course am no doctor so I can't say what I do is right, but as I mentioned I drink over 80 oz. of water everyday, take 81 mg aspirin (somedays 2 when I feel strange and Dr approved), and eat natural blood thinning foods- cook with a lot of garlic, ginger, several times a week, eat berries often, Curry, cayenne pepper at times, take fish oil supplement, a couple times a week a ginko biloba and a glass of wine with dinner. I try to get in a good fast pace walk in 30 minutes at least five days a week. I have NO IDEA if this helps, but so far so good. And lots of prayers. As I mentioned keep me posted. I'm curious what others do also. We are fortunate to only be on aspirin for now. Just hope it can stay that way. Oh, but don't eat too many blood thinning foods, as we know that can be bad too!

I had my first DVT in 1992, was on Warfarin for 2 years and then on 325 mg of aspirin daily..then (while still on the aspirin) I had another DVT in 2003...the Drs told me that with APS aspirin alone is not enough for me and that I will be on Warfarin the rest of my life
