I apparently have an overload of iron in my system. I have been on iron tablets for years now due to low levels. I had a Total gastrectomy two years ago and have been taking iron tablets daily. Has anyone else had this problem. I cannot understand why this has happened. The doctor has stopped my tablets and I must get tested again in 3 months. Has this got to do with APS ??

High Iron Levels
Hi!
Only your doctor can explain this situation in your specific case. If you are concerned, see your consultant.
Best wishes,

Yes I realise that, I was just wondering if anyone else who has APS has experienced this problem, as I had never heard of too much iron in system.
I know of a few people who have this problem. And have it for different reasons.
One has a hereditary problem due to his Sicilian ancestry. Even with the overload of iron he often appears jaundiced.
Another man I met said it was a hereditary issue within his family for generations. His doctor had him donating blood every three months to relieve his overloaded blood.
Another started experiencing it as a young girl. In her case it had to do with her mixed racial heritage. At the time she was forced to limit her food to those containing less iron. Her body was so overloaded that she was always extremely fatigued. I don’t ultimately what happened when it came to treatment for her.
I hope you find some answers and treatment through your doctor. Good luck with your issues.
I just recently seen an article about how iron is stored in our organs. I think copper, which we need and lack will release it. We don’t need supplements if we release it. Maybe your stored iron was unlocked? I will have to try to find that info for you Don’t worry. Stay positive 😊❤️
have the opposite issue. Anticoagulants was causing internal bleeding. So min went as low as 16.
I am now taking iron tablets every other day
If you are post menopausal iron is not usually recommended. It should only be used if your doctor has tested your iron and prescribed a dose. High iron in post menopausal women is a common occurrence and can lead to heart disease.
