I have been experiencing hair loss on my head and eyebrows along with fatigue/feeling slow and hyper pigmentation on my face.
My GP finally tested my thyroid and as always it is normal. TSH is 0.61 miu/Lrange (0.34 - 5.6) but obviously on the low of normal.
I looked back and a couple of years ago I have free T4 and it was 14.4pmol/L (9-25.7) and free thyroxine 11.8pmol/L range >9.7
I am going back today to ask for current t3 and T4 to be done but if the results were similar could these still mean I was borderline pituitary hypothyroid? ( I have had pituitary problems in the past) b12 and vitamin d.
I have also booked a private endocrinology appointment as my GP is totally useless.
Any ideas or other tests I should request?

Hi there, all I can say to you is, that the NHS is not very good on Thyroid testing, and GP's are not very well trained to understand the disease(s) in their entirety I am a paid up member and member of the Thyroid UK forum on this platform, their charity advised on private testing available. I do whichever is on offer, and compared to the one or two tests the NHS does I do around 20 - 25 tests which include many thyroid tests including some like these TSH, FT4, FT3, TT4, Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies,Thyroglobulin Antibodies, Ferritin ,Folate, Vitamin B12 (NOT ACTIVE B12), C Reactive Protein, Vitamin D (25 OH), REVERSE T3, Insulin, HbA1c, Magnesium
I test around 3 - 4 times a year, it is a real pain to have to pay, but if not, all my B12 would have been ignored and also my stubborn thyroid tests, it took years for it to show up on TSH, over that time I gained a lot of weight, lost hair, sleep, eyebrows. All ok now, down to my last 12 pounds to lose in weight, with exercise, diet and natural desiccated thyroid. MaryF
ps those private testing centres/companies would probably have some pituitary function tests you could add in.
Thanks Mary, the GP today was actually very helpful and ordered lots of bloods so I can take them to the appointment next Tuesday as a starting point. I believe the consultant will want more or different ones but I feel happier he will have something to look at. The GP thought it could be down to my PCOS so ordered all the tests for this too. I think all my conditions are linked and have working and finding my own diet/exercise/medication combo with the help of you and all the lovely admins here.
Hi, they will not do all the tests I suggested above, so you might still need to do your own, most of us in the know, do this on a regular basis. MaryF
