Hi all just been prescribed Amitriptyline 10mg for nasty migraine headaches most of what I find on the internet appears to regard this as a pain relief but also not suitable for someone having had a recent heart attack. My heart attack was 12 months ago...what is considered recent?

Amitriptyline
Hi There.
I used to have bad migraines but after my APS diagnosis and being put on Warfarin they stopped for 7 years. Then they came back with a vengeance. I saw a neurologist who prescribed 20mg of Amitriptyline and in the 5 years since I have only had one migraine. I am now on Fragmin instead of Warfarin for my APS but I have not been brave enough to try stopping the Amitriptyline.

I have found that my local pharmasist is really helpful in questions on medications.it might help you regarding your Heart attack
Thanks
Daisyd, Good idea.
Manofmendip.. I found this really interesting. I have not historically suffered from migraine until about 3 years ago, then after having a heart attack in Oct 14, I was diagnosed with APS, then part of the medications after this included an asprin and Prasugrel as anticoagulation measures. The Prasugrel was stopped 12 months after the heart attack as this protection was apparently no longer required. Now migraine again? Very suspicious I think. I have requested a follow up appointment with a rheumatologist. Let's see what they have to say.
Yes do keep an eye on your symptoms, if you become worse with your symptoms you may need more than just anti platelet medication. Keep a list of symptoms and make sure your Rheumatologist is completely clued up on Hughes Syndrome/APS. Our charity website is a good starting point. MaryF
I've checked my pharmacy and (husband) GP sources. Recent heart attack is within last 2 months for amitriptyline as is can change the QT interval. Also amitriptyline is the best choice as all others have even more contraindications for you.
Give it a go as often very effective at low doses as a pain modifier (not a pain killer like paracetamol). Often used for migraine and other nerve Induced pain e.g. sciatica.
Thank you so much. You are most kind and helpful. I must say how much I have found the support from this site reassuring.
