If you have Hughes Syndrom/APS Should you get the flu shot or will this possibly mess with your already out of wack immune system?

Flu Shot?
Hello and welcome to our friendly forum.
We are not medically trained, on here, so we cannot give you specific medical advice.
I can only speak of my experiences with the flu shot and APS. I had shots in 2007 & 2008 and I felt washed out and had flu like symptoms for 6 - 8 weeks after each shot. I do not have them now but my wife, who is a complimentary therapist, obtains a homoeopathic remedy, from her suppliers in Germany, which is tailored to be specific for the flu strain(s) prevalent in each year. I take that and, personally, have no side effects.
I am sure that other members on here will reply to you and give you their experiences.

I have had a flu shot ever since I have been first on warfarin and then on Lovenox; all without complications (for ~ 20 years).
I've had the flu jab today.
Both my APS specialist and GP reccomended I had this as well as the pneumococcal jab.
I've had it in the past and had no adverse affects apart from an achy arm for a couple days.
Are you able to check with your consultant/GP? They'll know your background so if you're suitable for it. The reason it was reccomended for me is I almost always get a secondary infection with flu and viruses. I'm unsure whether it's offered to APS patients as standard procedure.
HI this has to be a decision made between your self and your doctor. Mine decided many years ago that I should have it, however this is due to the mix of diseases I have including one which causes severe allergy to infection or drugs. Many people I know with other autoimmune diseases including Hughes Syndrome, appear to be fine with it. MaryF
Just got the flu shot today. I've had one every year for the last thirty years with no ill effects.
I have one every year and have had for the last 20 years. I've never had any side effects from it. Have the pneumovax every 5 years also.
Had one each year for years and no problems. Wouldn't consider not having it as I used to have flu a lot when younger and took weeks to recover.
The flu vaccine is not a live vaccine so cannot give you the flu. I've had it before, with no issues and will be getting it again this year.
Hi, I have the Flu vaccine every year. I only felt unwell on the very first one. It's probably just a coincidence but I seem to have less colds since having it.
mine is in the high normal range. Does this affect me?
Had mine every year .never had a problem ...certainly wouldn't want flu again nearly finished me off when I had it ten years ago. .
I m seeing doctor on monday will discuss it and see what they say and get back to you thank s for all your advise it helps x
Hi had flu shot since having 2 strokes I'm on riveroxoban now had shots with warfarin and now oxoban. Had no adverse affects and still manage 3 jobs
I have had a yearly flu shot since 1997 (got the flu in 96 and felt like I was dying?) diagnosed w/ APS 6 years ago....plaquenil and aspirin....no complications....My Rheumatologist only discouraged have the Pneumonia vaccine if it CONTAINS a "LIVE VIRUS"(?)
Hi there, I am a bit confused with your information. Are you saying your
Rheumatologist discourages the Pheumonia vaccination, if it has a live
virus? Thank you for clarifying this for me.
I have to apologize make a CORRECTION....the vaccine that contains a live virus is the
shingles vaccine(Zoster vaccine) NOT THE PNEUMONIA
this is the recommendation she gave me....but I would check with your own MD..I did not ask her re: live virus....
Thank you for your prompt reply Luisa.
Hi, a lot of flu shots have phospholipid adjuvants added to them, these phospholipid adjuvants cause a syndrome known as APL or APS in susceptible people. Flu shots with Phospholipid Adjuvants will make us SICK! I have found a ton of research on this and brought it to my doctor who always pushes me to have flu shots after he read the research he stopped urging me to get them. I hope this helps. I also read that people with autoimmune issues should not get the Shingles shot either.....
No problem. The doc's at Children's hospital in Seattle always try to give shots to my 15 year old who has APS and Hashimoto's Thyroid (autoimmune) and when I ask why I'd give her phospholipid adjuvants when she has APS they are like "oh, then she can't have that! Boggles my mind...shouldn't we be the patient's not the doctors...like we need to know more than they do to stay healthy....
Frustrates me....
