i have passed 15 clots in 9 days n bleeding .gp said implant nt working so booked to have removed. family planning wont remove and prescribed the pill .i am wary 2 take as risk of dvt....gp p4rescribed tabs bt still bleeding and passing clots.... any ideas??? i feel so worn out and was vomiting last nite.

rach1081985 I had awful & i mean AWFUL monthlies since mine started aged 11.....so heavy & lasting for weeks on end & passing clots like lumps of liver........things were so bad I had transfusions.......anyway not to dishearten you but I was nearly 20yrs like that before (by fluke) I was at the end of the line of treatment just before the last resort of hysterectomy.........tried various different non-oestrogen pills/injections/coils you name it (oh & it was my gynae that found out I'd had APS!) long story short I was given norethisterone to try & ease a really bad 8wk bleed......it wasn't much use but my gynae then decided to give it to me in injection form to see if it made a difference....WOW!!! not had so much as a bleed since & my mood swings are back to normal (though I think hubby wouldn't say they were!!!) best thing ever & wish it had been tried years ago.......it does take 2 injections to settle things down but it was worth the wait mine is called Norethisterat (oily injection) and I have it every 8wks it does sting a bit but small price to pay!!!

If Norethisterate is the same thing as depo provera,then I used that for a while and was pretty much just asjanjan78 said.

Can I ask, is losing clots normal for you?

The reason I ask is ,,I know that for some people this is just how their periods are,mine were for a few years more recently and my daughters always were when she was young,,but, when I was younger, this was not the norm for me , but on one occasion my period was very clotty(don,t think that,s even a word) and it turned out that I was pregnant, but with an ectopic pregnancy.

I'm pretty sure that depo & norethisterat are very similar or at least kind of similar.....I know the depo is a 12wkly inj. & the norethisterat is an 8wkly inj..............but the depo inj just did not control my horrendous monthlies whereas the norethisterat had them under control within 2x shots......I suppose what works for one person may not work for another but I certainly cannot recommend the norethisterat inj highly enough......it has given me my life back from a women's issue.....plus I can do everything that that sanitary advert says I can do....cause I certainly couldn't do it before!!!! lol

After my stroke I stopped taking an oral contraceptive. Thereafter I was an a place where I was happy to have babies and use natural contraception .After my last baby I had a copper IUD put in place, which lasts for ten years. Was crampy and had heavy periods a couple of months but fine now. Last year was dx APS and thrombotologist said this was the best thing I could have done.

I wonder if horrid, painful, clotty periods have effected a significant percentage of us female Hughies and if those horrid years somehow triggered the autoimmune mistake?

I have mused the same. I now have a mirena coli - that works for 5 years and the first one I had stopped everything for the whole five years, but now it's not so great. I had tried oestrogen only pill but i ended up feeling awfully low on them so the doctors suggested that I needed to alter the hormone levels locally not throughout my whole body. I have to say, I think it's been a complete miracle - wish i had discovered it earlier!

I fell pregnant on the pill (not the mini one though) aswell & because I was young at the time (19) the gyn/obs defo had me down as a "forgot to take it" kinda gal but my well woman clinic doctor cut across & said there's no way this girl forgot as she runs packs together to get a break from bleeding......did have a successful pregnancy but it went badly at the end & we both nearly died......APS was diagnosed a few weeks after my son's pre-term birth.....never had any oestrogen pills allowed afterwards and was given the mirena coil but my womb didn't like it & expelled 5 of them before I was put on the depo injections......they didn't suit either & I was given a progesterone only pill which suited for a while but my body did it's own thing & started bleeding badly again 2yrs solid!!!! So as a last resort I was given the norethisterat inj.......the pills were ok but not nearly as effective as the inj for some reason & I have never looked back the inj is a life saver & we have a family life again we can go places that aren't near toilets (had to be near so I could change protection regular) the fact that we can go places instead of being housebound is amazing

Before being diagnosed with Hughes, I was on the pill. I suffered three blood lots on the brain and nearly lost my life. I was taken off the pill and was advised to have the marina coil. Before the coil i had heavy periods, but after having the coil I now have periods maybe three times a year and when I bleed it's not much at all. Unfortunately not everyone is the same, and what works for one person may not be the same for someone else. I hope you find something that suits you soon, as I totally understand what your going through. Let us know how you get on x x x

are there side effect to the norethisterat injection? Sounds too good to be true...

Well I suppose everyone's different but *touch wood* I've not had any side effects.....been on it for 2yrs now & although it took a couple of shots for my cycle to settle down it has been great!!! I do get a tiny itch for a couple of days where the injection is given but apart from that it's great my district nurse (who is the only well woman nurse here) & I work together so if I'm going away she'll do it a day or 2 before & likewise if she needs me to have it earlier I'll fit in around her......we have sussed out over the past couple of years that I can't have it any later than 8wks it must be on the dot or I get break through bleeding & cramps like you wouldn't believe but 8wks to the day & everything is brill.....depending on our schedules we tend to give it a day or 2 before the deadline just so we don't crossover the 8wk mark

thnx 4 all ur advice i finally stopped nw after 11 days and 25 clots..... gp has given me norethisterone tabs so hopefully nw they will take my ipmplant out..... off 2 c my haemo 2morrow.....had bloods n clotting screen and all clear thnk goodness. xx

I have suffered for years with this. Before my diagnosis my gp would always recommend the pill which always made me ill! Since my diagnosis my gynea has said I should not go on the pill. The only suggestion he had was to put me into early menopause (can't remember what it's called) western medicine doesn't seem to work for my periods but I now have acupuncture which seems to help a lot- may be worth a try- good luck!
