I've been in my target range more often when taking Coumadin than when I took the generic.

Has anyone noticed a difference in their INR results when taking generic warfarin vs name brand Coumadin?
Yes. The difference between generic and name brand was profound during my first years after diagnosis. But now, 13 years in, I have no problem remaining stable on generic warfarin. Is it me? Or is the formulation of the generic more controlled now? I have no idea.
I tried to report to the yellow card system, but nothing seemed to work. Do you have an address for their site?
A doctor whose first degree and profession were in pharmacy and biochemistry once told me that in the US regulations allowed as much as 40% variation in active ingredient per generic doseage. He added that in some meds, such as antibiodics, this variation makes little difference because the levels even out. But when it comes to something like steroids, such a variation as not good. In the case of warfarin, since the drug has such a long half life, it makes sense that some of us can, and others can't remain stable on the generic.
