How do you know how much Vit D to take? I was diagnosed last year with low levels (24) but wasn't sure how much to take and for how long.

There has been a lot of discussion on the news this week about Vit. D Deficiency. It would appear that it is a problem in the wider population as well.

May be good subject for Patient's Conference.

Yes, vitamin D has been shown to be low in almost all the population today and affects many conditions including cancer, MS etc. The health journalist I've been dealing with on the forthcoming Hughes article, Judy Hobson, said she was currently writing several pieces about vitamin D as it's one of the biggest topics at the moment, not just in autoimmune diseases.

We just don't get the chance to get out in the fresh air any more - too much working going on!

Had my Vit D checked a year ago in off season and it was fine. I don't get a lot of sun and had just bought some multivitamins with probiotic and some Vit D to take as well. Thanks for reminding me to put into my daily pill allotment!

My result done in December was 55 despite being on supplements. My GP has therefore decided to give me an injection that lasts for 6 months apparently to give me a boost. I am having it on Monday at the surgery as its 2ml and she suggests it goes in the rear end...ouch!!

I also have thyroid antibodies and for anyone who is Hypothyroid it is very important also that your Vit D is adequate. This is because when you take T4 - Levothyroxin - it has to be converted to the useful T3 before you can benefit. If you are deficient in Vit D this will stop or interfere with this process.

Vit D is now seen by many as actually being a hormone.

you might like to look at my question (in the Questions section of the site), about stomach problems and vitamin d. It was posted on 6th February and there are some helpful replies. I am interested that you had the same problem as me. What dose were you taking?

Take care
