What do you think about drinking coffee before your first meal? I've been doing this for a while now. I haven't noticed any negative effects so far. However, I've heard mixed opinions on the subject. I wonder if it could have any negative effects on my health in the future. I should add that I get up around 5:30 a.m. I drink coffee around 8 a.m. and eat my first meal at 10 a.m. I wonder if I should change my routine. What do you think about it?

Hi, I have a coffee in the morning, and first meal at about 12pm. Been doing that for a while and not heard any discussion about coffee being a problem. However I only drink decaffeinated, maybe it’s the caffeine you’re concerned about?
Are you doing this as a "fasting?" Friend of mine is doing a fasting - no food after 7pm and only a caffeine (not decaf) black coffee in the morning. Then she can eat after 7am - better if later. She started a few months ago and feels better and just started losing some weight.
I don't do it as a fast. Although it often turns out that I eat my first meal around 10 am and my last around 7 pm, so it does turn out to be a fast, but an unintentional one. My meal times are a result of my lifestyle and the fact that I work a lot.
I am similar, coffee is my go to first thing, to help me wake up. Then I can consider breakfast, when I won't burn myself by not being full awake at the stove!
I'd have thought it was ok if you're ok with it. However I did read an article this week saying that if you have had a poor night's sleep and have caffeine before eating, it can play havoc with you blood sugars. I think it was on the Gloucester Live website. Not sure if those claims have been substantiated.
That's kinda what I do--nothing, then coffee (w/caffeine, mct oil, full cream) around 10-11, then hold off on anything else as long as possible. It is a form of intermittent fasting/keto dieting I guess...but it helped me lose a lot of weight. It certainly isn't unhealthy.
I read an interesting article saying caffeine can actually IMPROVE poor sleep, IF and only if you have it in the morning. NOT later. Don't know if it's true tho.
