diet drinks etc
I’ve never drunk fizzy drinks except for tonic water and am now wondering if that contains it too?
I drank diet drinks for decades with no obvious side affects and didn’t pay attention to the ingredients until a few years ago when I had a bad reaction to a diet drink. It was the aspartame that contains phenylalanine. I can’t drink anything with aspartame anymore without the side affect. That was my personal experience with it and can only speculate what the long term affects might have caused.

Aspartame has been listed as potentially harmful since the late 70s I believe. However, a recent EU study has said that Aspartame (E951) is acceptable at an intake of 40mg per 1kg of body weight.
However, UK scientists are disputing the findings citing studies that show that it is more unhealthy than that. There are talks of the UK government implementing a ban on aspartame altogether in the future.
Personally I won't use artificial sweeteners because they don't wean you off regular sugars. The best way to cut back on sugar is to desensitise yourself to it and not to replace it with something else.
