The health benefits of eating organic foods
Hi Bluelady-sing, As you know macronutrients are the carbohydrates, fat and protein which we eat in our daily diet. I honestly don't know about this particular claim but find it hard to see how organic food could produces significantly higher amounts of nutrition. 60% is quite the claim. That's an awful lot and if it's true I don't know why food scientists wouldn't be urging us to all consider going organic to bolster our intake of vital nutrients. And could we really have fats which would provide 60% more nutrition?
I suspect the claim is about micronutrients - the vitamins, minerals, etc. These are more likely to be affected by the farming system
I don't know about macronutrients, but I do know that organic foods are produced without pesticides or artificial Fertilisers.
I think the only difference is they are produced on farms which don't use these things.
Cheers, Midori
Yes guys, I think I agree organic probably uses less chemicals which counteract the goodness, 60% is actually frightening, perhaps just one of my five a day being organic will balance thing out! The challenge is being sustainable, the Chard seems to be holding out. Love Chard, going to try and pot grow some
