Hi , I have just joined the community. I am losing weight to help lower my blood pressure, cholesterol and feel better about my health. Currently about 2 stone heavier than I need to be so some way to go.

Welcome, and good luck with the new changes :)

I think it's important to include a bit of exercise in lowering your blood pressure, so look at ways to work some walking/fitness in there :)

Thanks. I do try to do a brisk walk each day and also swim 2-3 times a week.

Hi WalkmorePJ welcome to the community and you're in great company for all things healthy eating and exercise leading to a sustainable life style for you.

If you want to lose weight successfully you want to start off with a well nourished body as many people who are over weight are over fed and under nourished so get your self eating well first and as Cooper27 says it would help to heave exercise as well and hopefully the pounds will slip away.

Thanks for introducing yourself and you will get all the support that you need on here.

Jerry 😊

This may sound like a silly question but what is the best way to get a well nourished body to lose weight?

in reply tochris47

Hi chris47 this is a sensible question, I meant that you should concentrate in the first instance in eating healthy foods rather than processed foods and swap sweets and biscuits for say an apple or a bunch of grapes.

By doing this you will have started your healthy eating regime first and then you look at cutting calories and its cutting the empty calories that will help you achieve your goals the easiest.

Here's some more advice that will expand on this, please see:

I hope this helps and any more questions then you just ask away. 😊

Thank you for your reply my main problem is breakfast as nothing i have tried fills me up enough. I was wondering about trying eggs next. I normally have porridge with fruit and a slice of toast. Any suggestions

in reply tochris47

Hi chris47 I like my breakfast and tend to have eggs on toast with tomatoes and mushrooms.

I am a coeliac and I don't eat oats and my belly doesn't like milky breakfasts so I'd check out our porridges please see:

We have some of the best porridge recipes and photo's on social media so you should find these inspiring.

Hi I am sure I’ll get the support I need as so many people have already engaged with me. Thanks again

I’ve been doing that for the last year, and I’m find it relatively easy to lose a pound a week eating healthily. I’ve also dropped a cholesterol point, and actually am no longer on the blood pressure tablets. So the doctors are right about that for some of us! Good luck with your weight loss journey. I agree that if you even walk 30 minutes a day, if you can, it helps.

Hey very well done you Greenrememberedhills I am very pleased for you especially that you no longer need tablets for blood pressure and your approach was spot on, with a little at a time so it's just slipped away...😊

Thank you. It’s taken a year or more with the odd stall , and I still have 8lb to go. Nearly there, though.
