Hi everyone. This month is National Soup Month. It starts on January 1st and lasts through January 31st. Here are some ideas for how to celebrate the month while enjoying preparing/cooking soup. Please see: nationaltoday.com/national-...
We would like to see pictures of the soups that are your favorites. You can add the pictures under the comments section and/or create a new posting.

Which type of soup does your dad cook? I'm thinking of having soup this weekend or later during the next week coming up since the temperatures and weather are supposed to be very cold.
My favorite types of soup are: lentil, broccoli and cheese and split pea.
He makes veg soup. turkey soup- any flavour really -hes one of those people who can jsut pick up left overs & make a soup out of it - or if its turkey or chicken - use the bones as flavouring then remove them when its ready to serve
That’s okay. There’s no reason to add croutons/soup nuts. Some people have done it and had the same issue happen for them when the croutons were added.😀👍👍
I tried to make a post of the cabbage and sausage soup I made, but the picture wouldn’t load, so I ate it . Sorry, I did try to add to the spirit of January soup month. If I can fix the problem, I’ll post . 😁
Thank you for letting me know that about your picture for your soup. How big is the picture? Sometimes, the size of the picture needs to be decreased to have it be uploaded/added. 😀👍
National Soup Month, it's always soup month in our house. Always homemade using any leftovers and limpy vegetables. Never throw anything away and even use vegetable cooking water for stock.
I use the bits of veg you would normally throw away i.e. the thick stems of broccoli and cauliflower, the outer leaves of cabbage and cauliflower and the tops of sprouts are beautiful, just like baby cabbages.
That's a wonderful idea. I like cauliflower and broccoli, so this will be two great addons for my next soup we plan to have at a meal soon. Thank you for the suggestion.
A soup maker (like a cross between a jug kettle and a blender) makes it simple. My favourite is buttenut squash with a small sweet potato and a stick of celery, flavoured with salt, black pepper and a little chilli and last minute add a little coconut milk and coriander leaf.
I enjoy Butternut Squash for soup. I also have a carrot soup now and then. Both are thick, but it depends on how long/amount is in the pot at the time. It differs as to how many people plan to eat them for that day/meal.
I used butternut squash ( never ever had this ), roasted it enveloped with butter, garlic and various herbs, it was a brilliant base for anything I then cared to add, which in the case was various veg, and crispy bacon, so creamy and a wonderful base !
Wow, colo60 . This sounds really delicious. How many servings do you cook for leftovers? I was thinking of trying to cook some soup and have a few extra servings leftover so I can have them for a lunch/as a side dish with a sandwich during the next week. 😀👍🍲
