Have you spoken to the doctor about changing your diet/calories/exercise routine? If not, please contact them before you do anything to be on the safe side of things. No one wants anyone getting sick or worse.
OK will do
I would caution against eating too few calories: studies have found that eating just 1200 calories a day rescuers thyroid function by 1/3, and below 900 can reduce by 50%. This will slow your metabolism right down, meaning you may not lose weight despite eating so little.
An easy way to add more calories to your diet would be to include more oils.
Thanks for your reply. I will have to look at other things to increase calories
Hi fattummy, in all my decades of dieting I only found that restricting calories to a minimum only ever resulted in short term weight loss and long term regain. It was also very much associated with eating low fat and “slimming” products. For the last two years I’ve been much happier, lost weight, reduced food cravings by forgetting about calories and monitoring carbohydrates instead. Getting rid of sugar, pasta, rice, bread and potatoes and filling up on fresh food low carb, healthy fats (eggs, butter, cheese, avocado, salmon) has for me, been a revelation that you can eat well, not go hungry and reduce the fat tummy at the same time. Good luck with whichever method you decide to continue with.
Thanks that seems good advice, I will try anything
Hi. I'd like to offer support to PandQs suggestions, having had life time weight problems. The single most effective thing I've found is ridding sugar from the diet or at the least making sure to only eat things that have 5g (1 teaspoon) of sugar per serve. It is not easy as sugar is in so many things and you will need to check labels on everything. But it helped me a lot. Once I had that largely built into my life as a habit I started on the other suggestions PandQ made. good luck.
Hi. My height is 5ft 1 inch (and the inch makes all the difference) 9st 13lbs with a BMI of 26.2. I am wanting to loose weight and whatever I have read they often state 1400 calories for women
1400 is generally a number plucked out of thin air (technically so is the GDA of 2000). You certainly need to avoid going too low, but generally just focus on reaching a balance where you don't feel hungry, but you are managing to lose. Start with 1400 but if it's not enough, increase a little (focus on nutrient dense foods like vegetables though)
Good Morning
It's a question of balance. If you don't move much, you don't burn much fuel . If you move a lot you can burn a lot of fuel. If you get a step counter on your phone it will help you keep track. A fitbit or similar will give details of your activity and tell you how many calories you have burnt.
I think PandQ and AussieGary have called it correctly. Beware of sugar, it is very addictive and very hard to shake off, but you will feel good when you get used to not eating it. For me avoiding cakes and biscuits is the key.
If you're not a very active person, I would suggest to go on a ketogenic diet, which is lots of protein and vegetables and less carbs. In this diet you will also have loads of healthy nutrients to sustain a healthy body and lose weight at the same time.
