Mucus is not all bad, its only bad if it is built up in the wrong areas of the body. The average human body makes 1 to 1.5 liters of mucus a day. Mucus keeps the organs in the human body moist and serves as a trap for dust, bacteria, and smoke. The bad part about mucus is, it can form in the wrong parts of the body and affect your health. On the other hand, Phlegm, is a type of mucus, its usually just in the lungs and comes out with a cough.

The common food that causes mucus and phlegm are baked goods, dairy products, red meat, and processed sugary foods and drinks such as candy and soda. The symptoms of mucus and phlegm build-up, are usually, shortness of breath, frequently clearing your throat, snoring, bad breath and coughing. Therefore if you are experiencing any of those issues, here are somethings you can eat and drink to substitute or cancel out.

Tea,

Peppermint or ginger, I’m pretty sure peppermint and ginger are different at some point, but for right now they are pretty much the same. I use both to detox my body if I feel bloated or too full after a meal. I’m not surprised it can help clear mucus and phlegm from the body as well.

Garlic

Garlic can be used as a natural expectorant, which can help with breaking down phlegm build-up.

Lemon

Tea with lemon, hot water with lemon or lemon slices with honey drizzled on top, are common home remedies that can help clear mucus and phlegm.

Clear Broth Soup

When I say clear I mean no milky substance, the worm fluid can cut down the mucus in the back of your throat. Warm fluids provide a soothing feeling, killing the mucus.

Fruits and vegetables

Fruits and Vegetables are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help support your body’s ability to stay healthy. Vitamin C, for example, has anti-inflammatory properties and may help open the airways, reduce wheezing and kill Mucus.

Hi Culturepeep

I hope you're having an enjoyable week so far. So far I've managed to stay quite healthy - cold-free etc, which is good. I do think that lemon and honey are a great thing to have when suffering a cold, and lovely warming clear broth soup is yummy at any time in the Winter.

Zest :-)

That was helpful to me thank you
