Whether the promotion of kale is good or bad is one thing but our exploitation by commercial lobbying really does go against the grain. Interesting read nonetheless: theconversation.com/celebri...

That's very interesting, and makes a good point.

I was surprised when I learned that kale grows very well in the UK, and has been grown here for a very long time. Given the way it was introduced, I thought it had originated from abroad. It's interesting to see that it just went out of fashion before being re-marketed to us.

I won't object if people are developing a taste for locally grown produce though :)

Hey willsie01 this is really interesting, I smiled at the reference that kale was for vulgar natives...so thanks for posting it. 😊

Thank you for sharing.

I've read the article which I found very interesting and it just goes to show the impact of media be it social or not. Kale was a cheap vegetable when I was a child and my mum grew it, I personally no longer like it. I tried seaweed in the firm of crackers and thought they were awful.

Personally we need to go back to basics and eat a varied diet, the word 'superfood' is overused and as far as I'm concerned incorrect. I try to keep to a varied balanced plant food diet.

Thank you kindly for the insights shared in ‘The Conversation’ article, "Celebrity greens kale and seaweed were long considered food of last resort" ( theconversation.com/celebri... ), willsie01. 🙏 😌

Funny & disappointing 🎭 how we’re so easily influenced/ manipulated by culture, marketing, & perceptions of fashion/ status . . . 😯 🤦‍♀️ 🤷‍♂️

[And, ironic how such perceived ‘poverty/ peasant’ foods, were/ are actually nutrient-rich & ‘healthy’. 👍👍 😂 ]

Related aside:

Dovetails 🕊 beautifully with Dr. John McDougall’s modern day message of how we can return to the better health of our forefathers by returning to:

. . . Eating like peasants 👩‍🌾 👨‍🌾

.

Return to eating "peasant foods" staples ( rice 🍚 , corn 🌽 , potatoes 🥔 , sweet potatoes 🍠 … ) of successful populations of the past.

[And, NOT 🚫 to continue eating like kings 🤴 & queens 👸 (meat, dairy, oils, … ).]

If interested, the 17-minute TEDx video 📹 :The food we were born to eat: John McDougall at TEDxFremont ( amara.org/el/videos/hZEKL1F... with transcript & timestamp) dovetails beautifully with the spirit 👻 of the Kale 🥬 article. 👍👍

Thank you, again, for the link, willsie01. 😌 🙏 🍀 🌺 🌞

Yea, you never know? My son in law recently told me that "Mold" is a scam? It makes me Wonder? Because growing up living in horrific conditions in a home that my grandmother owned we had those conditions and rat, mouse and roach infestation. None of us ever got sick? It is a billion dollar industry, you never know?

I like purple kale better as it's not so bitter as the green variety
