Good afternoon all,

Thank you for the add. I’m mainly interested in vegan or vegetarian diet. I have couple of autoimmune diseases so want to try minimising the symptoms by changing diet and lifestyle. Thank you again

Hi Hope1011

A warm welcome to you, and it's great that you've joined us in the Healthy eating community. There is also a Vegan community too in Healthunlocked, called 'Vegan Foods for Life' - so that's worth looking at as well - as I see you mentioned an interest in the Vegan diet, in addition to the Vegetarian diet. Here is a link, if you want to have a look at that forum:

healthunlocked.com/veganfoo...

Also, have a look at our Topics entitled Vegetarian and Vegan - hopefully you'll find something of interest - and there are Pinned posts too - various themes.

Wishing you an excellent weekend.

Zest :-)

Hello Hope1011 thanks for introducing yourself and welcome to the group, we're a friendly bunch of foodies who cater for all diets and some if us have autoimmune disorders so you're in great company on here.

And I hope that you enjoy being part of our friendly community.

Jerry. 😊

Hi Hope,

I have largely removed over 40 years of arthritis and psoriasis (and associated drugs) from my life through a whole food plant based lifestyle. See Paddison Program for more details. My last arthritis drug (methotrexate) was 1st July 2017 and by following this lifestyle my body heals and heals.

Although at its heart this may be considered a vegan diet, it is very much the ultra-healthy end, specifically removing foods that trigger arthritis in your body (including all refined oils) and concentrating on the immense and proven nutritional power of plants, including cruciferous veg, legumes, berries, dark leafy greens, turmeric, etc etc.

Having been in a wheelchair my body was shot and so I also follow and intensive physical recovery using Bikram Hot Yoga. I started that October 18th 2016, so just over three years now of going 4 or 5 days a week. This is where I will be heading in an hour or so to Yogavenue in Cowley, Oxford.

I wish you luck,. If you follow a similar path then with determination, patience I am confident you will both succeed in removing chronic illness from your life and protect yourself from recurrence or other chronic conditions in the future

Cheers Andy

Thank you Andy, I’m a great believer in plant based diet. I tried it for three months and did see a difference. But I stopped wheat, sugar and dairy/meat all at the same time so didn’t know what was actually helping. After 3 months I started back on normal eating because when you have to cook for kids and they are not too keen on vegs. It becomes really difficult. But I will get back on it and will need all the help I can get.

Thank you so much once again for taking the time and writing a detailed post.

If you happen to have Hashimotos, I'd highly recommend checking out Izabella Wentz for information on controling the disease.

A lot of her information can translate to other autoimmune diseases too, for example, in how autoimmune diseases are triggered and the dietary benefits of a trial period without gluten, soya and dairy.

You would potentially benefit from vitamin testing to check for deficiencies, and supplementing as necessary.
