Hi everyone, two weeks ago today my doctor prescribed Adipex for six weeks to help with weight. I been taking it,eating right and exercising. The weight started coming off then today I weigh and see I have gained a few pounds. I'm starting to feel down and like I'll never get the weight off. With this medication I'm hardly ever hungry, my husband says I still need to force myself to eat three meals a day with snacks in between. I'm not sure what to do. Has anyone else taken Adipex? Did you have success with it?

Hi Hateanxiety , firstly I am not surprised that you feel down if you have put on weight taking Adipex. Adipex is Phentermine which affects our bodies similarly to amphetamines by suppressing appetite. So forcing yourself to eat is counter productive.
I have no experience of Phentermine but my opinion is exercise combined with a healthy diet especially one lower in calories than you burn off would result in sustainable weight loss.
Exercise is fantastic for helping to ease anxiety as it releases chemicals in our brains that make us feel good so exercise is a natural stress buster and is a great aid to weight loss.
In my opinion you want to change your relationship with food and eating and you might well benefit from fasting which can help to reset your relationship with food and make you mindful of what you eat and why.
Here's a link about Adipex and its side effects:

Finally losing weight and staying trim requires a permanent diet change and it takes time so I'd try and see it as a long term goal for your future and take things literally one step and one meal at a time. And we will support you in your quest to lose weight.
So good luck.
Jerry. 😊
I second everything Jerry just said, these sorts of medications can have bad side effects for your health, so unless you are in the super morbidly obese range where your weight is a high risk of itself then better to do this slowly and sustainably. If your doctor is giving you these pills they should be closely monitoring you anyway.
It takes a bit of experimentation because everyone is a little different, but you can find the right balance of foods to allow you to lose weight gradually without feeling starving all the time which sets you up better for maintaining your weight longer term. Good luck 😀

Our body weight fluctuates quite a bit due to water retention, and I'm sure that's all it is!
There are a few things that influence water retention, so consider; where are you in your monthly cycle (we retain water at certain times of month), did you eat a lot of salty foods yesterday? Did you do much exercise? How was your sleep?
I do know one lady who took adipex, she lost a about 16lbs using it. She gained some back when she stopped taking it, so you do need to work on forming healthy habits that you can sustain after you stop taking it.
Hi Hateanxiety
I haven't got anything to add to what has already been said in your replies, except that I would like to wish you the best and say welcome to the Healthy eating forum.
Hope you have an enjoyable weekend.
