Freshly picked blackberry and apple crumble gluten free topping with ground pumpkin seeds. 🍏

β€’31 Replies

Hi everyone,

I picked some blackberries over the BH weekend, I was told that the last week in August is blackberry picking week, which I think is charming. I have some blackberries growing in my hedging so didn't have to go far to pick some. I cooked them with some Bramley apples and I made a crumble with ground pumpkin seeds ground almonds and GF plain flour so its still nice and healthy and is packed with nutrition. 100mg of pumpkin seeds contains 90mg of magnesium. By grinding the pumpkin seeds and baking them they will be easier to digest and a natural source of magnesium.

I used a tub of blackberries 4 large Bramley apples, for the topping I used 125g ground pumpkin seeds 50 ground almonds and 50g plain GF flour 100g organic butter 50g brown sugar.

I'm trying to increase my magnesium in take and as naturally as possible so thought that I'd experiment with a simple crumble mix.

I'm looking forward to trying it later...πŸ˜€

Hi Hidden

Your Crumble looks really scrumptious! A lovely natural source of magnesium as well.

Thank you Zest, I was reading how ground pumpkin seeds were used in homeopathy as a natural source of magnesium.

I think that you mentioned migraines a few weeks ago and magnesium is known to cure and minimise migraines, it is also a natural muscle relaxant...

I might try it? I've been having issues with my stomach, maybe gluten sensitive?

in reply to Want2BHappy3

I'd check this out before going GF as there's a simple IgA blood test for CD: nhs.uk/conditions/coeliac-d...

Thanks for the info, going through the process of elimination, I suffer from inflammation from my stomach. This has been going on for weeks, it's keeping me from sleeping. I've tried the things my doctor told me too, didn't work. So today I'm going to get my blood tested for H-pylori, a bacteria that attacks the stomach. Antibiotics is the cure for it. And if that test is Negative? I'll request a referral to see an internal specialist. This is driving me CRAZY 😡

in reply to Want2BHappy3

Hi Want2BHappy3 an elimination diet is a good idea, however my first thought is have you been taking antibiotics? because they can upset our stomach as they kill all our gut bacterial and we need to restore them after a course of antibiotics. Probiotics are the answer so it's a good idea to eat in live yoghurt kefir or even a supplement.

I hope that you feel better soon. 😊

No, their going to see if I have H-pylori first, if the test is Positive? Then she'll prescribe the antibiotics. Then there won't be a need for a diet elimination

in reply to Want2BHappy3

Well good luck with this and if you do have antibiotics, I'd consider probiotics.

In place of or in addition too?

in reply to Want2BHappy3

I'd ask the Dr, because antibiotics will kill the bacteria in probiotics.

Then I wouldn't take probiotics, I need the antibiotics need to do their job

in reply to Want2BHappy3

I'd ask your Dr about having them after the course of antibiotics.

My Rhubarb plant is from my parents house which I planted when I was a kid, I got the rhubarb heart from my uncles allotment. I call it "The Family Ru plant". Its nearly gone before it goes with the crumble mix.
